SHILLONG CO OPERATIVE URBAN BANK LTD. INAUGURATED

Shillong, March 5, 2011: The Meghalaya Chief Secretary Mr. W. M. S. Pariat inaugurated the second branch of the Shillong Co-operative Urban Bank Ltd. at Polo, Shillong on March 5, 2011 in the presence of Mr. A. L Hek local MLA and Chairman Meghalaya Urban Development Agency, Smt R. Warjri, Chairperson, Meghalaya Co-operative Apex Bank, Smti R. V. Suchiang, Commissioner and Secretary, Cooperation department, Mr. D. P. Wahlang, Commissioner and Secretary and Administrator Shillong Co-operative Urban Bank Ltd, Mr. F. R. Kharkongor, Registrar of Co-operative Societies, council members and others.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pariat appreciated the members of the council, officers and staff of the Shillong Co-operative Bank Ltd. for all their hard works, commitment and dedication that they have put on during the last eight years which they have been able to pull the Bank from the brink of collapse and change the fortune of the Shillong Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd. to become the financial institution equal to any nationalized Banks in the country.

The Bank has extended their social commitment to serve the poor and needy with the opening of the Shillong Co-operative Urban Bank Ltd. Polo Branch and also further improve the covering of banking system in the urban area, said Mr. Pariat. This branch in particular will cater to the people of Polo area and its adjoining areas for the day to day business especially the low income group and help them to uplift their social and economic condition. Continuous attempt on the part of the government has been made to ensure that more branches are opened by different banks not only in the state capital but up to the Block level to improve the banking system in the State for the benefit of the general people, informed Mr. Pariat.
