6 DAY TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR MIDDLE AND JUNIOR OFFICERS

Shillong, March 9, 2010: The six day training programme on sensitization of common guidelines and preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) was inaugurated on 9th March, 2010 at SIRD, Nongsder. Additional Chief Secretary, Shri P.B.O Warjri graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Shri A. Syiem, Director, Soil & Water Conservation, Meghalaya, Shri R.R.B.R Thabah, Joint Director, Soil & Water Conservation, Dr. S Bhan, Soil Conservation Society of India (SCSI), New Delhi, Dr. T. K Sarkar, SCSI, New Delhi, Shri. K. C Momin, President, Soil Conservation Society of India, Meghalaya Chapter and Officers from different government departments.

The main objective of the event is to impart a basic understanding on watershed development and to manage key issues and meet challenges associated with it.

The event was organised by the Soil and Water Conservation Development Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with the Soil Conservation Society of India.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri P. B. O Warjri, besides extending his gratitude to the Soil and Water Conservation department for initiating such a programme, he highlighted the problems in preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and said that the programme would be able to equip the officers with the correct knowledge to prepare DPRs. He also stressed on the importance of sensitization such as sensitivity to the requirements of the village and villagers and to the watershed development schemes to ensure maximum benefit from them.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME HELD AT NONGSTOIN

Shillong, March 9, 2010: The National Disaster Response Force from Guwahati in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Committee, West Khasi Hills conducted the Disaster Management programme at the office premises of Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District on the 8th March, 2010. Assistant Deputy Commissioner, Shri. W Nongsiej grace the occasion.

The highlight of the event is a demonstration by the NDRF team led by O. M Prakash, team commander on how to safe lives during natural disaster, snake bite, electric shock and providing them first aid.

The programme was attended by government staffs from all departments as well as the people from various villages.

At Mawshynrut, the function was inaugurated by Shri. D. D. Sangma, BDO of Mawshynrut on the 5th March, 2010. Following the speech of the BDO, the NDRF team displayed the demonstration on how to safe lives during accidents, snake bites and earth quake.
