CHIEF MINISTER INAUGURATES THE SUSPENSION FOOT BRIDGE OVER SIMSANG RIVER AT CHISOBIBRA

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today inaugurated the suspension foot bridge over Simsang river at Chisobibra constructed under MGNREGS Samanda C & RD block at a cost of 2.7 crore in the presence of Government Chief Whip and local MLA Mr. Marcuise Marak, East Garo Hills, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Swapnil Tembe and officials of line department, nokmas and villagers of 7 villages.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest Chief Minister Conrad Sangma lauded the DRDA officials and villagers for their dedication in constructing the 100 metre suspension foot bridge which will benefit 7 villages residing across the Simsang river. The Chief Minister informed that the government is committed to provide better infrastructure and road connectivity to the people and the government has allotted more money in the current financial year for up gradation and improving of roads in the state. He also informed that the construction of Rongram, Rongrenggre and Darugre (RRD) 40.40 km road under MITP road will be started soon. Highlighting on the degradation of forest and scarcity of water in Garo Hills the chief minister urged the gathering to take initiatives for preservation of Simsang river and sought the support of the people in restoring natural environment.

Government Chief Whip and local MLA Mr. Marcuise N Marak in his brief speech, expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister and said that under his leadership many developmental projects has been initiated in the state and sought the cooperation and support for the successful implementation of the project.

Later in the day the Chief Minister inaugurated the 165 mtr submersible bridge over Simsang river and Kampil river at Dinamingre which was built at a cost of Rs. 2,35,70,500/- and laid the foundation stone for upgradation and improvement of Rongram, Rongrenggre and Darugre road. He also distributed cheques to 30 producer groups under the FOCUS programme and smokeless chulas under the Himalayan Global Expedition.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Deputy Commissioner, East Garo Hills Mr. Swapnil Tembe, Block Development Officer, Samanda, Mr. Albert Momin and East Garo Hills Superintendent Engineer, Public Works Department Mr Beda Thongni.
