WORKSHOP ON TECHNICAL EDUCATION FOR NORTH EASTERN STATES HELD

The 2nd Regional Workshop on ‘Improving Quality of Technical Education System in the North Eastern States’ organised by the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research Institute, Kolkata (NITTTR) and hosted by the Education Department, Government of Meghalaya got underway today at Shillong Polytechnic, Mawlai, Shillong. The Two Day workshop aims to provide a platform for State Directors, Polytechnic Principals and others to reflect upon and discuss threadbare various issues afflicting implementation of important Technical Education Projects , all round quality improvement in the Teaching Learning System, aligning Technical education Curriculum along with the needs of the world of work and other related issues. Dignitaries, Directors of Technical Education of the different participating states, experts, academicians and participants were welcomed by Prof. Phalguni Gupta, director, NITTTR, Kolkata. While spelling out the objectives of the workshop, Prof. S. K. Naskar, Associate Professor NITTR Kolkata, stated that the workshop would centre on its main theme “Aligning Polytechnic Curricula towards Employability” and expressed hope that it would help provide a platform for the participating officials from different states for all round development of students in the realm of technical education. Representing the Education Department, Meghalaya, Shri O. Ropmay, Joint Director Higher & Technical Education, Meghalaya said that the workshop is a welcome move by NITTR Kolkata, adding that the primary focus of all concerned must be on curriculum planning with special focus to the employability factor for students. He also expressed optimism that students and teachers alike would adapt progressively with the changes through time. Shri Ajit Balakhrishnan, Chairman Board of Governors IIM Kolkata and member of the Board of Governors NITTR, Kolkata meanwhile underlined the need of framing the curricula that aligns with the needs and opportunities of the times. He also stressed on the need for setting up a placement system that would enhance the employability of students. Shri Balakhrishnan also urged upon the participants to encourage creativity and innovation in the young minds of students.

CHIEF MINISTER ATTENDS FICCI (FLO) ANNUAL MEETING

Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma today attended the 32nd Annual Session of FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO) at New Delhi. The meeting was also attended by Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Rajiv Pratap Rudy. Gracing the meeting as the Chief Guest, Dr Mukul Sangma said that organizations such as the FICCI (FLO) provides a platform for policy makers to further expand the possibilities of networking and integrate various policies that bring transformative changes especially in the lives of women. Stating that empowerment of women must start from home as children usually draw inspiration from the mother, he stressed on the need to sensitize women to participate effectively in the programmes of the government. The Chief Minister also added that promoting woman entrepreneurship is crucial in the fight against poverty and felt for the need to have access to financial resources, a legal framework of non-discriminatory regime and a woman friendly economic system for women entrepreneurs. “Women entrepreneurs when successful act as a change maker in their families and society and inspire others to become self-reliant.” FICCI (FLO) is the women wing of Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI). An all India forum for women, FLO has headquarters in New Delhi and 13 chapters set-up across India, representing over 3900 women entrepreneurs and professionals. With over 32 years of experience, FLO has been promoting entrepreneurship and professional excellence in women through various workshops, seminars, conferences, talks, training and capacity building programmes with the objective to encourage and facilitate inclusion of women’s talents, skills, experience and energies across all sectors and levels of economic activity.

MOCK DRILL ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT CONDUCTED

In the aftermath of the cyclonic storm that hit Shillong and its adjoining areas on 5 th April, 2016, the District Disaster Management Authority, Mawkyrwat in collaboration with the office of the Block Development Officer, Mawkyrwat has conducted a two days training cum Mock Drill on Disaster Management on the 7 th & 8 th April at Maharam Government Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrwat. The Mock Drill was organized with a view to create awareness as well as to keep the public informed of the eventualities that might arise due to natural calamities and to make people prepared in the event of unforeseen disaster. The programme is part of preparedness and safety measures under Disaster Management Plan and through such training and demonstration people would be informed of the precautionary measures that they ought to take in the event of such disaster in order to mitigate, minimize and alleviate the suffering of the people. In the Training cum Mock Drill, training facilities on Search and Rescue Operations ,First Aid Treatment to the wounded and the like was imparted to the people by the State Home Guards &Civil Defence.
