FREE SCREENING CAMP ON DEAFNESS AT SOHRA CHC

Shillong, June 9, 2011: Keeping in mind that hearing/speech impairment is one of the most common but preventable cause of disability, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, has launched the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPCD). The objective of the NPPCD is to prevent avoidable hearing loss and to ensure early identification, diagnosis and treatment of ear problems responsible for hearing loss and deafness.

In this regard, an awareness cum-screening & detection camp which will also mark the official launch of the NPPCD in East Khasi Hills will be organized at Sohra CHC on June 10, 2011 at 12:00 Noon. Dr. P W Khongjee, Parliamentary Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The activities to be carried out at the Camp will include free screening of patients who are suffering from discharging ear, deaf since birth, deaf-mute, congenital defect and distribute free hearing aids to the patients. An ENT Specialist from Civil Hospital Shillong will also be available for consultation.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO VAS-NGOS-SHGS UNDER VOLUNTARY ACTION FUND

Shillong, June 9, 2011: Proposals are invited from Voluntary Organizations/Non-Governmental Organizations/Graded Self Help Groups for consideration of providing financial assistance from the Voluntary Action Fund (VAF) of Planning Department, Government of Meghalaya during the year 2010-2011 in accordance with the approved guidelines. This was informed by the District Planning Officer, East Khasi Hills, Shillong.

Assistance under this scheme shall include short term group trainings/ short term group seminar/workshops. The financial assistance to be sanctioned to the VAs/NGOs/SHGs will depend on the merit and nature of the scheme.

Application forms for submission of proposals can be obtained from the office of the District Planning Officer, East Khasi Hills, Shillong.

Interested VAs/NGOs/SHGs are to submit their proposal alongwith the details of the scheme and relevant documents to the District Planning Officer, Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong on or before 22nd July, 2011.

CESS ON CONSTRUCTION COST OF THE BUILDING TO BE LEVIED

Shillong, June 9, 2011: The Secretary, Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has informed that as per the directive of the Labour Department, Government of Meghalaya, Cess at the rate of 1 (one) percent of the construction cost of any building will be levied. This is as per Section 3 of the Building and other Construction Workers, Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service Act, 1996, added the Secretary.

According to the Secretary, all application for building permission are requested to inform and instruct their consultant architect, engineer to submit the total construction or renovation cost inclusive of water supply, sanitation, electrification etc. while preparing the building plans and to submit the same with the application. Deduction and collection of the Cess will be made by the MUDA on approval of the building plans.

TRAINING CUM WORKSHOP ON GOVERNMENT E-PROCUREMENT SYSTEM HELD

Shillong, June 9, 2011: A Three Day Training cum Workshop on Government e-Procurement System (GepNIC) organized by the National Informatics Centre, Meghalaya in collaboration with the Public Works Department, Government of Meghalaya was held at NIC, Shillong from 8th to 10th June, 2011. The first two days of the training was attended by PWD Engineers and the last day was reserved for Contractors involved in the implementation and execution of the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Scheme.

It may be mentioned that the workshop was organized to familiarize officials and contractors for the online tendering, etc., of PMGSY Scheme as per the requirement put on by the World Bank.

It is worth mentioning here also that GePNIC aims at transparency and non discrimination amongst bidders, by allowing free access to tender documents, clarifications, etc., It also enable secure online bid submission and access to bid opening event from all places on 24x7 basis using the GePNIC system through Internet.

The Resource persons for the Three Day Workshop are Mr. Ganesh Khandaga, Technical Director, National Informatics Centre, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India and Mr. M D Wasim of (n) Code Solutions, Kolkata.
