Press Release No. 297/19

FALSE PROPAGANDA BY CERTAIN VESTED INTERESTS REGARDING CLOSURE OF BSNL

The Assistant General Manager (Mktg), O/o the CGMT, NE-I Circle, BSNL, Shillong has informed that certain recent reports in some sections of the media are conveying an impression that BSNL may be closed down. The reports of BSNL closing down are baseless and false. On the contrary, Government of India recognizes BSNL as a strategic PSU. Department of Telecommunications, Government of India (DoT) values the inherent strength of BSNL as telecom provider with huge infrastructure and reach, including rural areas. Further, DoT is in process of finalizing a proposal for revival of BSNL. The news reports in question have unnecessarily tried to focus on the closure of BSNL, despite the government assurance of revival of BSNL. This is being done with the intention of migrating BSNL customer base to competitors by vested interests. It is clarified and reiterated that DoT would like to see a robust BSNL, duly strengthened and financially viable, dedicated to serving the nation and playing an important role in the telecom sector. Shri B. Chandra Sehkar, CGMT, NE-I Circle, BSNL informed that BSNL is committed to serve its customers, and in process of implementing network upgradation and bringing competitive plans to benefit its esteemed customers. He has further requested BSNL’s esteemed customers to keep faith in BSNL and ignore such misleading reports of closing down of BSNL.
