DRAFT PHOTO ELECTORAL ROLL PUBLISHED

Shillong, November 11, 2010: The Electoral Registration Officer, Jaintia Hills District, has informed that the Photo Electoral Rolls of 1-Nartiang, 2-Jowai, 3-Raliang and 4-Mowkaiaw Assembly Constituencies have been prepared in accordance with the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, and a copy is available for inspection at the office of the Electoral Registration Officer and at designated locations during office hours.

The qualifying date for the preparation of the electoral rolls is 1st January, 2011. If there is any claim for inclusion of a name in the roll or any objection to the inclusion of name or any objection to particulars in any entry, it should be lodged on or before the 23rd November 2010 in Form 6, 7, 8 or 8A as may be appropriate.

Any such claim or objection should either be presented in the office of the Electoral Registration Officer, Jowai or to the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer or the designated locations or sent by post to Mr. B Mawlong, Electoral Registration Officer so as to reach the above office not later than the aforesaid date.

FRESH APPOINTMENT OF WHOLESELLER

Shillong, November 11, 2010: Applications are invited for fresh appointment of Government Rice Wholeseller PDS under Khliehriat Civil Sub-Division Jaintia Hills District for the year 2011, for the wholesale centre of Khliehriat, Rymbai, Sutnga, Lumshnong and Umkiang. This was informed by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Supply) Khliehriat Civil Sub-Division, Khliehriat.

Prescribed applications are available in the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Supply) Khliehriat. Application duly filled in and accompanied with all the necessary documents should be submitted to the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer on or before 15.11.2010.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE SOIL CONSERVATION SOCIETY OF INDIA HELD IN SHILLONG

Shillong, 11th November: A 3-day National Conference of the Soil Conservation of India was held today the 11th Nov, 2010 at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong, organised by the Soil Conservation Society of India(SCSI) Meghalaya Chapter, the Conference focuses on Watershed Management of sloping lands for environment and lively security. The Conference is sponsored by North Eastern Council, Soil & Water Conservation Deptt. Govt. of Mghalaya, Public Health Deptt. & small farmers Agri-horti business consortium Meghalaya.

Dr. R.C.Laloo, Minister of Soil & Water Conservation, Govt. of Meghalaya graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, other dignitaries includes Dr. A.K.Singh, DDG(NRM), ICAR, Dr. Suraj Bhan, President SCSI, New Delhi, Dr. S. Subramaniyan, SCSI Chennai, Shri. K.C.Momin, Chairman, Organising Committee and other Officials.

Speaking in the occasion, Dr. R.C. Laloo expressed his thanks to the SCSI Meghalaya Chapter for hosting and organising this conference. He said,”It is needless to say that Soil Conservation is the need of the hour in this age of rampant misuse of Natural resources particularly in the state of Meghalaya”. He highlighted the ills of deforestation, land degradation, wild fire, excessive breaking and mining activities. He further stated to address the spoils of Natural Resources is by management of all available resources under watershed treatment approach and he wishes that the deliberation from this conference with the interaction and implementation of the projects will be fruitful.
