HOME GUARDS AND CIVIL DEFENCE ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATED

Shillong, December 6, 2012: Together with the rest of the country the Meghalaya Home Guards & Civil Defence 50th Annual Day was celebrated at the Central Training Institute of Civil Defence & Home Guards, Mawdiang-diang, Shillong on 6th December 2012. Mr. Shitlang Pale, Minister Incharge, Home Guards & Civil Defence graced the occasion as chief guest. After the arrival, the Chief Guest took the General Salute and inspected the parade along with the Parade Commander Mr. R Koch.

While addressing the gathering Mr. Shitlang Pale lauded the service of the twin organizations of Civil Defence & Home Guards for assisting in any kind of emergency and also whenever calamities, both natural and manmade takes place. He also stated that the department provides help to the state police and civil administration in the maintenance of law and order, in guarding VIPs residences and in meeting security requirements of several Central and State Government departments and private agencies.

Mr. Pale asserted that they also serve the society by imparting training to the Home Guard volunteers and conducting various training courses on Civil Defence subjects including disaster management. Moreover, the Civil Defence & Home Guards personnel have done a commendable job in rescue operations during natural calamities in the past, added Mr. Pale.

Mr Prem Singh, Director General, Civil Defence & Home Guards, in his speech said that the department of Civil Defence and Home Guards has an important role to play in the Disaster Management effort of the state since the state being located in the seismic zone V is prone to earthquake and other natural calamities. He further informed that proposal has been sent to the government for construction of staff quarters and unavailability of drinking water facility in the premises which is causing great difficulty to the department in particular.

During the function, Dr Leonard Eddie Kakoti Marbaniang was awarded President’s Home Guards & Civil Defence Medal and Lawansuk Syiemlieh was awarded the Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for their meritorious service on the occasion of the Republic Day, 2012.

Awardees of Director General Civil Defence’s DISC and Commendation Certificate, 2011 are Mr Tailor Rynjah, Mr Alkat Liting, Ms Badalyne Kharkongor, Mr Abinash D Sangma, Mr. Pynsuklang Suchiang, Mr. Sidhointo Khyllep and Ms Anichal Suchiang. Awardees of Director General, Civil Defence & Hom Guards, Meghalaya Commendation Certificate, 2012 are Mr. Sumarset Kharjana, Mr. Billucas Kharkongor, Ms Estalitha Marak, Mr Des Roy Lyngdoh, Mr. Stanish Lyngdoh, Mr. K K Thabah, Mr. Timothy Marbaniang, Mr. Joseph Sangma, Mr. John Marak, Mr Surendra Thakur and Mr. Pradip Saikia.

Earlier in the programme Mr. M K Sangma, Senior Staff Officer, Civil Defence and Home Guards read the Annual Day Messages of Governor of Meghalaya, Mr Shitlang Pale, Minister Incharge Civil Defence & Home Guards and Mr Hector Marwein, Principal Secretary, Civil Defence and Home Guards. Mr. R R Thangkhiew, Jt. Director of Civil Defence & Jt. Commandant General of Home Guards welcomed the gathering while Mr. R P Khongwar, Commander, Border Wing Home Guards Battalion proposed the vote of thanks.

WHOLE-MEAL ATTA RELEASED FOR OCTOBER

Shillong, December 6, 2012: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has informed that Whole-meal Atta for the month of October, 2012 is being distributed through the Fair Price shops as per scale of 1128 grams per head and price of Rs. 7.80p per Kg.

Any non supply or overcharging of the rate by the suppliers may be brought to the notice with all the details.
