TAMIL NADU FORMALLY HANDS OVER 20 CHILDREN TO THE STATE

Shillong, March 13, 2014: Twenty Meghalaya girls, who were taken to Tamil Nadu by Laisynshar Cultural Society today came back to Shillong after the Madras High Court directed the Tamil Nadu Child Welfare Committee to handover 20 children from Meghalaya to the Chief Secretary of the state.

The Meghalaya Additional Chief Secretary i/c Chief Secretary Mr. P B O Warjri formally received the children from the Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu, Mr. Vincent Sundarraj and later handed those children to their respective parents after thorough verification by the authorities at U Soso Tham Auditorium today. District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Ms. M. Sivagandhi, Social worker, Police Officer and Women police constable accompanied the children.

Mr. Warjri expressed his gratitude to the Child Welfare Committee, Krishnagiri for taking care of the children during their stay in Tamil Nadu and the Government of Tamil Nadu for ensuring their rights and giving them ample opportunity to choose their future career. He also informed that compliance report will be submitted thereafter.

Mr. P W Ingty, Commissioner & Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Mrs. T Phanbuh, Chairperson, Meghalaya State Women Commission and Mr. H M Shangpliang, Director, Social Welfare were present on the occasion.
