ROAD INAUGURATED AT MAWRONG

A motorable road at Mawrong, Ri Bhoi District, constructed by the Block Development Officer, Umsning under the SGRY I Scheme at a total cost of Rs. 1,00,000/-, was inaugurated by the Meghalaya Deputy Speaker, Mr. P. W. Muktieh on July 12, 2005.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Muktieh commended on the sincere efforts of those involved in speedily materializing the scheme. Lamenting on the fact that some villages could not complete the scheme provided to them, he urged the village elders to maintain the spirit of sincerity towards working for the overall development of their respective villages. He also appealed to the people to be patient while expecting for schemes since everything cannot be done at a single time.

Mr. Muktieh also informed the gathering that a memorial stone of (L) B. S. Shadap, a renowned poet of Ri Bhoi District will be constructed soon. Regarding the electricity voltage problem faced by the people of the area, Mr. Muktieh assured that he will take up the matter with the MeSEB to address the problem.

NOMINATION FOR PADMA AWARDS INVITED

The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District has informed that the Padma Awards will be announced by the Government of India on the eve of Republic Day, 2006. The Padma Awards include Padma Vibhushan for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of a high order and Padma Shri for distinguished service.

Nomination in respect of persons from East Khasi Hills District may be sent in the prescribed proforma to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong latest by 22nd August, 2005.

All citizens of India including persons belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes and handicapped persons are eligible for the award.
