PASSING OUT PARADE OF THE 194TH RECRUIT TRAINING BATCH OF 58 GORKHA TRAINING CENTRE ON 14.05.2022

The Passing Out Parade of the 194th Recruit Training Batch of 58 Gorkha Training Centre was held on 14 May 2022 at Harish Parade Ground, 58 GTC, Happy Valley, Shillong. The Parade marks the culmination of rigorous Recruit training during which young civilian boys are transformed into physically fit, mentally robust & professionally competent Young Soldiers of the Indian Army. In an impressive ceremony marked by immaculate turnout and precision marching, a total of 214 Recruits took the ‘Oath of Affirmation’ administered by the Adjutant. These young soldiers will now proceed to various units of the Indian Army, dedicated to protect the motherland when the need arises. The Parade was reviewed by BrigadierRobi Kapoor, Commandant 58 Gorkha Training Centre who congratulated the Young Soldiers for the successful completion of their training while also exhorting them to strive to be the finest soldiers of the Indian Army. In his address, the Commandant also stressed upon importance of valour, honour, ethos, sacrifice & always putting service before self in line with the finest traditions of the Indian Army. During the presentation ceremony, Recruit Laxman Kumar Shrestha was awarded the Overall Best Recruit & Recruit of 5 GR (Frontier Force) and Recruit Subash Roka Magar was awarded Best Recruit of 8 GR.

FOUNDATION LAID FOR P. A. SANGMA MEDICAL SKILL HUNAR HUB IN GARO HILLS ON 14.05.2022

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma in presence of Minster, Health and Family Welfare, James P.K. Sangma, and Chief Adviser to the Chief Minister, Thomas A. Sangma, on Saturday, laid the foundation for the construction of the P.A. Sangma Medical Skill Hunar Hub at Dumindikgre, near Babadam in West Garo Hills. The project, funded by the Ministry of Minority Affairs under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram, is being implemented through the Department of Social Welfare. The Medical Skill Hunar Hub will impart training in the field of nursing and paramedics.

Addressing the gathering at the foundation laying ceremony, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi for the prestigious project. He said that the Medical training centre has the potential to address the needs of the State’s health care sector for well trained and skilled medical professionals. He said that the State along with the rest of the country faced challenges due to the Covid 19 in the past three years. The State had to endure shortage of medical staff and nurses due to increased patient intake in health facilities across the State during the pandemic period. Acknowledging the requirement to take preparatory steps to strengthen the manpower needed to manage similar situations in the future, the present Government had envisioned setting up such medical training facilities in the State, the Chief Minister informed.

‘I express my gratitude to the Ministry of Minority Affairs under the leadership of Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi Ji for accepting our proposal and sanctioning this very important project for our State’, the Chief Minister said. Stating that improving the health care sector in the State is a priority of the present Government the Chief Minister said, ‘We need to ensure that ample importance is given to the health sector so that in the future we are able to provide proper health services to the people and even if challenges and pandemics like the COVID pandemic that came in, come in the times ahead, we as a state and a country is prepared to face those challenges’.

During his address, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, James P.K. Sangma informed the gathering on the various reforms that have been initiated in the health sector to improve the overall health scenario in the State and to ensure healthcare services become available and accessible to people at the grassroots. He added that the Medical Hunar Hub will be a crucial support system for various manpower requirements to successfully fulfill the mandate of Preventive Health Care as envisioned under the Meghalaya State Health Policy.

The P. A. Sangma Medical Skill Hunar Hub is being developed at an estimated cost of around 150 crores. The project includes construction of a 300 bedded multi-specialty hospital comprising one Nursing college, a pharmaceutical college, Paramedical College and Skill Development Centre in addition to hostels for accommodation. The Medical Skill Hunar Hub will be a modern state of the art medical facility that will cater to medical skill development and health services not only to the State but neighboring states as well.
