AWARENESS ON HIV AIDS HELD

Shillong, July 14, 2010: The Awareness campaign on HIV AIDS and importance of Family in society was held at Pingwait village under Mawkynrew Block, East Khasi Hills on July 13, 2010. The campaign was jointly organized by World Vision of India in collaboration with P A Sangma Foundation. Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Ms. Agatha Sangma grace the occasion as the chief guest in the presence of Leader of Opposition, Mr. Conrad Sangma, local MLA, Mr. Remington Pyngrope besides others.

In her speech, Ms. Sangma lauded the efforts of the World Vision India and P A Sangma Foundation for organizing the campaign which will benefit the people of the area at large. She further stated that HIV AIDS has been count as one of the deadliest disease to mankind. She hoped that the campaign will provide a kind of platform for the rural people to bridge the gap between the urban residents in terms of health sector. She further hoped the organizers will create this kind of campaign in various parts of the States especially in the rural areas where the people can gain more knowledge about the various aspects of health.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Leader of Opposition, Mr. Conrad Sangma, local MLA, Mr. Remington Pyngrope and Mr. T Lyngdoh, member World Vision of India.

CM INAUGURATES ONLINE SYSTEM OF TAX RECEIPT

Shillong, July 14, 2010: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma today inaugurated the Online System of Tax Receipt via Cyber Treasury at the Yojana Bhavan Auditorium, Shillong in the presence of the Chief Secretary, Mr W M S Pariat, Principal Secretary, Finance, Mr B K Dev Varma, Commissioner & Secretary, Finance, Mr N S Samant, Commissioner of Taxes, Mrs L Kharkongor and the General Manager, State Bank of India, Mr S K Mishra.

The inaugural programme was organized by the Department of Finance, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with the State Bank of India and the National Informatic Centre (NIC), Shillong Centre.

The Online system of Tax Receipt will enable registered tax payers to pay their taxes online through the internet by logging on to www.meghalayaonline.gov.in. It may be mentioned that Meghalaya is the 21st State in the country to use this facility while Assam is the 1st among the North eastern States. The website is integrated with the State Bank of India and also with the Treasury offices in the State. At present only the State Bank of India is having the facility.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mukul said that it is a proud moment for the State, it is a milestone of technology advancement in the State. He said that the Online System of Tax Receipt is the first G2C service in the state which will ensure efficiency, transparency and productivity. He urges upon all the registered tax payers to avail the facility which is hassle free and also eco friendly in all aspects.

Chief Secretary, Mr W M S Pariat in his brief speech said that the system will benefit the State Government enormously and will also help the Finance Department in monitoring the financial position of the State with ease. (mipr)
