PUBLICATION OF DRAFT ELECTORAL ROLL

Shillong, October 14, 2011: The Electoral Rolls of 32-Nongstoin (ST), 33-Rambrai-Jyrngam (ST) and 34-Mawshynrut (ST) Assembly Constituencies have been prepared in accordance with the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 and are available for inspection in the office of the respective Electoral Registration Officer and at designated locations during office hours.

If with reference to 1.1.2012, which is the qualifying date for the preparation of the electoral roll, there be any claim for the inclusion of a name in the roll or any objection to the inclusion of name or any objection to particulars in any entry, it should be lodged till 1st November, 2011 in Form 6, 7, 8 or 8A as may be appropriate.

Every such claim or objection should either be presented to the respective Electoral Registration Officer, office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin or to the Block Development Office Nongstoin/Mawshynrut/Mawthadraishan/designated Officer i/c Polling Station or send by post to the address mentioned above.

6TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF ISC HEL

Shillong, October 14, 2011: The 6th Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Cardiology (ISC) on the theme North East with the global advancement in the field of cardiology, got underway at North East Indira Gandhi Institute of Health and Medical Science (NEIGRIHMS), Mawdiangdiang in the outskirt of the city. The two day conference is being organized by the NEIGRIHMS in collaboration with the Indian Society of Cardiology. Speaker, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Mr. Charles Pyngrope grace the inaugural function as the chief guest in the presences of Dr. D D Lapang, Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya who grace the occasion as the guest of honour, Prof. R K Gokhoru, President ISC, Prof. A Mishra, organizing secretary, ISC, Mr. D Sawkmie, Deputy Director, NEIGRIHMS besides senior cardiologists.

In his inaugural speech said that the conference has a stupendous task in reaching out to the youth who have become vulnerable to various cardiac ailments. He further hope that parliamentarian, legislators and social activist will join hands with the ISC so that the new National Policy reverberates in villages, towns and cities in weaning away the youth from smoking, drinking, stress, sedentary habit and avoiding different kinds of food styles. He further stated that the ISC has a primordial responsibility to penetrate all tiers of population so that the onset of cardiovascular diseases is detected on time and medical care is provided to every one. He also lamented that despite of advancement in different fields, India has sadly emerged as the hub of lifestyle diseases, adding that diabetes, hypertension and cardiac ailments has top the list due to the rapid changes in life and food habit. He further added that the ISC besides medical and medication care must strive for evolving a national policy on saving hearts of the youth with a view to prevent, control, minimize and completely eradicating heart ailments amongst the youth of the country.

Dr. Lapang in his speech as the guest of honour lauded the effort of the ISC for organizing the Conference in Shillong which will create a platform for all cardiologists from all over the country to deliberate and achieved critical issues concerning cardiac care. He further said that the main aim of the conference is to share latest technology advancement in treating cardio-vascular diseases while intriguing and challenging issues in the management of cardiac patients.

INAUGURATION OF SCHOOL BUILDING AND LAYING OF FOUNDATION STONE FOR AUDITORIUM AT UMLING

Shillong, October 14, 2011: Dr. D D Lapang, Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya laid a foundation stone for the construction of Umling Auditorium on October 13, 2011 which was sanctioned under BRGF scheme. He later inaugurated the school building of Umling Upper Primary School which was constructed under Sarva Shiksa Abhiyan (SSA) scheme in the presence of Mr. G Khongsdir, Sub-Divisional Education Officer, Mr. S Najer, SDO PHE besides other officers.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Lapang lauded the office of the Sub-Divisional Education Officer for proper implementation of the SSA scheme in the District for the benefit of school children. He further said that the Central Government along with the State Government is fully resolved and committed to higher allocations of funds for education. Education is a must for every child and through education we can mould and shape the future of our community by eradicating poverty, ignorant and sickness, said Dr. Lapang. He also pointed out that the Government has implemented many schemes and project through different Departments for the benefit of the people and also to uplift the socio-economic lives of every section of the community and urged them to properly utilized the schemes allotted by the government and he do hoped that the schemes available would cater to the needs of the recipients.

He also urged upon the village authority to stand united with determination, hard work, understanding and cooperation among themselves in all activities and also to cooperate with the Government for the overall development of the District.
