HEALTH MINISTER INAUGURATES ICU AND ETP AT SHILLONG CIVIL HOSPITAL

The Meghalaya Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Shri. A L Hek officially inaugurated the State of the Art 12-bedded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) today, the 15th July, 2019 at Civil Hospital, Shillong. The ICU, which is an upgradation of the existing 6-bedded ICU, is well equipped with the latest technology for patient needing specialised care and interventions. This ICU has been sanctioned from the State Plan under the SPA (Special Plan Assistance) at an amount of Rs. 4.27 crores.

In his inaugural speech, the Minister informed that the ICU service is MHIS linked and thus free treatment is being provided to the beneficiaries. He expressed confidence that the ICU facilities will ensure that quality services are made available at very affordable minimal costs. The Minister said that the government is committed to provide the best health care to our citizens and in this endeavour, it has been receiving the unstinted cooperation of the doctors, nurses and health care personnel. Missionary zeal and humane approach is the key to good and satisfactory services and when acted upon with a touch of passion, coordination and cooperation of all stakeholders, smooth delivery of health care services is ensured, he said.

On this day, the Minister also commissioned the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) of the Hospital which will ensure safe and proper disposal of the liquid waste emanating from the different departments of this institution which will be of immense benefit to the public. The ETP will help in reusing the waste water thereby decreasing the demand of water consumption and treated liquid discharges that can be safely released and have no ill effects on the environment. Construction of the turnkey project was started in the later part of 2017 at an estimated cost of Rs. 83 lakhs. The first trial run was done on 21st January, 2019 and final trial run on 5thJuly, 2019.

WORLD YOUTH SKILL DAY, 2019 OBSERVED

The Labour Department in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Skills Development Society (MSSDS) under the umbrella of the Government Project ‘Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya’ (SHCDM) assisted by ADB observed the World Youth Skill Day today here at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong. Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Prestone Tynsong graced the programme as Chief Guest. In his address, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Prestone Tynsong said that the aim of skill training programmes is to enable the youth to hone one’s skill and explore employment options and opportunities in various sectors and to not only depend on white collared jobs. He also urged upon the trainers to extend all possible help to the trainees in order to get them established in life.

During the programme, the Deputy Chief Minister along with other dignitaries released the Skill Brochures and also distributed certificates to the trainees who have completed their skill training in various programmes. Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya and CEO, MSSDS, Shri D. P. Wahlang, Executive Director, MSSDS, Shri B. Hajong and Labour Commissioner, Shri B. Mawlong was also present at the programme. As part of the celebration, Skill Training Providers of various Government sponsored programmes also set up stalls at the venue to enable the youth to obtain information on various sectors like Hospitality, Fashion Designing, IT/ITES, Healthcare-General Duty Assistant, Security Guard, Plumbing, Welding and Painting, Integrated Farming, Pottery, Handloom & Weaving etc.

RATES REVISED

The Managing Director, Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation Limited (MTDC Ltd) has informed that the Board of MTDC Ltd in its 162nd Meeting held on 7th June, 2019 has relaxed the rates of Hall charges in Pinewood Hotel, State Convention Centre, Shillong and in Orchid Lake Resort, Umiam, for organizing various events and programmes by individuals and groups. Details of the revised rates are available with the respective units which will be effective from 1st August, 2019.

UNCLAIMED DEAD BODY

The Joint Director of Health Services (SS), Civil Hospital, Shillong has informed that a male patient named Kalu Chettri, aged 50 years, C/o PAB, Civil Hospital, Shillong was admitted in the Male Medical Ward-I, Bed No. Ext. on 12.07.2019 at 12:59 PM. The patient expired on 12.07.2019 at 06:00 PM. All concerned relatives, etc, are requested to collect the dead body from the morgue of the hospital within a period of 3 days failing which the dead body will be send for disposal by the Shillong Municipal Board.
