STATE LEVEL CONGRESS OF THE 19TH NATIONAL CHILDRENS SCIENCE CONGRESS HELD

Shillong, November 15, 2011: The State-level Congress of the 19th National Children’s Science Congress-2011, organized by the State Council of Science, Technology & Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya was held on November 3, 2011 at the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts & Guides, State Headquarters, Shillong. The programme was inaugurated by the Meghalaya Minister, Science & Technology, etc, Mrs. Ampareen Lyngdoh in the presence of the Principal Secretary, Planning, Mr. K S Kropha as the Guest of Honour. Others present at the function were the District Planning Officer, East Khasi Hills, Mr. A Bhagotia, Padmashree Mrs. T Phanbuh, Principal Scientist, Bio-Resources Development Centre, Upper Shillong, Dr. S K Sharma and Member Secretary, SCSTE, Meghalaya, Mr. R D West.

Altogether thirty projects were presented during the day-long programme by project teams representing all the seven Districts of the State. At the end of the day, eight best projects were selected to represent the State in the National Congress to be held at Jaipur National University, Jaipur, Rajasthan on 27th-31st December, 2011. These projects were those led by Issonde Lyngdoh, Pariong Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Pariong, Wanbiang M Pohiing, Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Shillong, Edawanbiang Dhar, Jaintia Secondary School, Jowai, Gunsa Irma Ch. Marak, St. Xavier’s Secondary School, Tura, Shaphranglin Lyngdoh, Presbyterian Secondary School, Mawlangwir, Aayushi Mehrotra, Army Public School, Shillong, Jessica Nongrum, St. Paul’s Secondary School, Nongpoh and Nangiohshwa Shadap, Jowai Public School, Jowai.

Projects of Pariong Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Pariong and Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Shillong have also been selected to represent the State in the forthcoming “Indian Science Congress Session” to be held at Bhubaneshwar, Orissa from 3rd-7th January, 2012.

Earlier, District-level Congresses were organized at different District headquarters for selecting of projects to the State-level Congress.

CM TO LAUNCH STATE WIDE MASS MOBILISATION CAMPAIGN OF AQUACULTURE MISSION

Shillong, November 15, 2011: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma will launched the State-wide Mass Mobilisation Campaign of ‘Aquaculture Mission’ at St. Michael School, Umsning, Ri Bhoi District on November 17, 2011 from 11:00 AM onwards.

The Director of Fisheries-cum-CEO FFDA has extended invitations to the members of the public to attend the programme on the said date and time.

SALENG A SANGMA INAUGURATES 58TH COOPERATION WEEK

Shillong, November 15, 2011: Meghalaya celebrates its 58th Cooperation week from 14th to 20th November, 2011. The inauguration function was held on November 14, 2011 at Women’s Group & Handicraft MPCS Ltd at Mookyndeng, Jaintia Hills District on the theme ‘Inclusive Development through cooperatives’ organised by the Cooperation Department Government of Meghalaya jointly with State Level Cooperative Federations and Women’s Group & Handicraft MPCS Ltd.

During the week long celebration, the cooperative societies aimed at creating awareness to the mass through the exhibition to be put up on the 17th November, 2011 at Tympang Ground. The commencement of the cooperative week also coincides with the birthday of Late Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the architect of Modern India who was well aware of the relevance of cooperative in building the nation.

Speaking at the inaugural function, the Minister incharge of Cooperation, Saleng A Sangma, said cooperatives have been considered as very vital instruments in fighting poverty and exploitation, therefore management by a dedicated team of workers is needed who can commit and serve for the success of the members and non- members of the cooperatives. He assured that the Government will try its level best to give a helping hand to the societies for their development adding that what is needed are the best quality cooperative societies and not quantity.

The Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai, T.Dkhar Commissioner & Secretary to Government of Meghalaya, Cooperation Department L. Diengdoh, General Manager Apex bank, Shri. Laloo, P.Mawkhiew President Meghalaya Cooperative Society Ltd Shillong were other speakers on the occasion.

BLOCK LEVEL CULTURAL PROGRAMME HELD AT NANGBAH.

Shillong, November 15, 2011: The Block Level Cultural Programme, organized by Syiem Synshar Social Welfare Organization, Nangbah, and sponsored by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Jowai was held at Nangbah on 12th November, 2011.

Union Minister of State for Water Resources, Mr. V. H Pala, in his inaugural speech, said that preserving culture means that we safeguard the identity of the community. We should know our own culture and learn others also, he added.

The others speakers were Mr. C. Ymbon MLA of Raliang as Guest of Honour, Mr. T. Dkhar, Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District and Mr. D. Rapsang, District Youth Coordinator NYK, Jowai. Other dignitaries attended the programme were Deputy CEM of JHADC Mr. Q. Suiam, W. Shadap MDC, Rio Sten MDC, Mr. O. Pasi, SP, Jaintia Hills District, Local MDC from Nangbah.

Seven teams took part in the Cultural (Folk Dance) competition programme. Attractive prizes were also distributed to the winners of the cultural competition. The programme was chaired by Mr. R. M Garod (Dalloi Nangbah) and vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Panshwa Susngi, Secretary of SSWO Nangbah.

PARENTS DAY CELEBRATION AT RI BHOI

Shillong, 15th November, 2011: Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya Dr D.D Lapang attended the Children’s Day Celebration of A.W Thomas L.P School, Killing Ri Bhoi District on the November 14, 2011at the school premises in the presence of the members of Jingiaseng Kynthei District Mawkhar Presbyterian Church, Rev P.G Khongsdir and Mr. W.L Mynsong Ex-MDC amidst large number of people including school children, teachers and parents.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Lapang lauded the initiative taken by the Jingiaseng Kynthei Mawkhar District in spreading Education particularly to the remote areas by setting up of schools which is the basic needs of children.

Dr Lapang urged upon the students to be hard working and aim high so that they can acquire achievements. He called upon the students to work closely with their teachers and also to obey them as well as to their parents.

Later on, Dr Lapang proceeded to the Regional Institute of Science and Technology situated at 9 Mile Killing, in a short meeting held at Conference Hall of the Institute, Dr Lapang launched the New Year Calendar 2012 of the Institute in the presence of Mr. M.Hoque, Chairman of ERDF & Chancellor of USTM, teachers, staff and students.

In his speech , Dr Lapang lauded the determination and vision of the founder for setting up the institution in Ri Bhoi District which is the basic needs of young students. He said that the founder of the institution was a dreamer of tomorrow and eventually his dream accomplished which has now immensely benefited the students of the whole Northeast particularly the of Ri Bhoi District. He also urged them to work hard and aim high in their studies so that one day they would be someone somewhere with honour and dignity. He advised them to keep maintaining the spirit of unity among themselves and also to love each others without having the sentiment of communalism.
