DRIVE AGAINST ILLICIT LIQUOR

The Deputy Commissioner (Excise), East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has informed that the Excise Staffs of East Khasi Hills District, Shillong actively continued the drive against illicit liquor and conducted raids in the Restaurants/ Stalls in the town and its outskirt. During the month of November 2005 the Excise Staffs detected 101 cases with a seizure of 345.225 litres of i/d liquor and 35.590 litres IMFL. In this connection 82 persons were arrested under Excise Act

TRAINING ON SHGs AND USER GROUPS HELD

A day long training on Self Help Group(SHG) and User Groups was held on December 14, 2005 at Science Hall, Nongpoh. Organized by the Soil and Water Conservation Department, Ri Bhoi District under the Integrated Waste Land Development Programme(IWDP) and Waste Land Development Programme on Shifting Cultivation Areas(WDPSA), the programme was attended by over 180 farmers from different parts of the district

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the inaugural function, the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Mr.B.Dhar lauded the organizer of the training programme for taking the initiative to spread awareness on various schemes available for the benefit of the SHGs. Expressing hope that much information on the activities of forming SHGs and the use of modern technologies will be passed on to the participants, he called upon them to translate into practice of what they have learned through the training and to spread the same to others

LOK ADALAT HELD AT NONGPOH

Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) in collaboration with the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri-Bhoi organized Lok Adalat at Ri-Bhoi College on December 10, 2005 wherein 31 cases were disposed off of which 10 were motor accident cases. The Meghalaya Deputy Speaker, Mr. P. W. Muktieh was the chief guest on the day.

DRY DAY DECLARED

The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has declared 24th and 25th December, 2005 and January 1, 2006 as Dry Day throughout the district of East Khasi Hills on account on Christmas and New Year Days

All Liquor Shops/IMFL Shops/Bars/Hotels/Clubs/ C.S. Shops/ C.S. Bars/ Outstill Shops shall remain closed on these days
