28TH DISTRICT LEVEL INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION ORGANIZED

Shillong, March 16, 2011: The two day 28th District Level Industrial Exhibition, organized by the office of the General Manager, District Commerce & Industries Centre, East Khasi Hills, Shillong got underway today, the 16th March, 2011 at the State Central Library premises, Shillong. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Industries Department, Mr. Arindam Som. Also present at the inaugural function were Mr. George Lyngdoh, Director, Commerce & Industries as the Guest of Honour, Mr. H Marbaniang, General Manager, DIC and Mr. M Pariat, Director Handloom & Handicraft, Government of Meghalaya.

Over 50 Government registered NGOs, Self Help Groups and entrepreneurs from different Districts took part in the exhibition showcasing a variety of products ranging from basketry, handlooms and handicrafts, musical instruments, processed food and others.

In his speech, Mr. Som said that the talents we have in the State have started blossoming through the zeal and efforts of the officials of the District Commerce & Industries Centre to promote small entrepreneurs and micro and cottage industries. Underlining the need for entrepreneurs and Self Help Groups to take efforts to learn from other participants, Mr. Som said that the DCIC should play an important and crucial role in guiding them so that they can market their products in a profitable manner. Therefore, he urged the entrepreneurs to take advantage of many schemes available at the DCIC and expressed hoped that the exhibition will benefit the entrepreneurs and be able to upgrade their talent by interacting with other participants. This showcase of skill should not end only in the District and the State, but should be taken into great heights by exchanging ideas and marketing with other states even across the borders, he added.

In his speech as Guest of Honour, Mr. G Lyngdoh said that industries play an important role in the economic upliftment of the people, where industrialized country and states grow rapidly compared to others. Stating that the exhibition is part of the yearly action plan of the Centre, he said that this kind of exhibition encourage the prospective entrepreneurs to take up self employment and shows what the Department is doing for the benefit of the entrepreneurs.

FREE TEXT BOOKS DISTRIBUTED

Shillong, March 16, 2011: Free text books for students of Upper Primary and Lower Primary Schools under Tura Urban Resource Centre were distributed by the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Sanjay Goyal on March 16, 2011 at a function organized by the office of the District Mission Coordinator, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Goyal highlighted the focus of SSA on girl child education and on children with special needs. Briefly speaking on the accomplishments of the SSA, he informed the gathering of the establishment of two KGBVs in Jengjal and Dadenggre. He informed that the KGBV is an institution especially focusing on the academic needs of the girl child.

While urging the School Managing Committees (SMCs) to exercise their authority, Mr. Goyal said that the success of schools wholly depend on the SMCs. Therefore, he appealed to the parents, SMCs and the people at large to take every intervention of SSA and other government aid as a challenge and strive to achieve the most from it.

Later free text books and utensils for mid-day meal under SSA were distributed by Mr. Goyal.

Others who spoke at the gathering were Mrs. H D B Sangma, Additional Deputy Commissioner and DMC, SSA, West Garo Hills, Mr. P K Hajong, Inspector of Schools, Mr. K T Sangma, BMC, Tura (Urban) and Mrs. Merina A Sangma, Member, CRC.
