LEGAL SERVICE CAMP

The District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills, will organise a Legal Service Camp at Smit Village on 25th January, 2018 as part of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) programme. This was informed by the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills District. The Legal Service Camp aims to spread awareness about welfare legislations and schemes, and strengthen the community’s access to the schemes being implemented by the Legal Services Authority and other government departments. It also aims to identify and connect people to welfare schemes and ensure that welfare schemes reach the targeted beneficiaries. Besides, the camp aims to understand legal needs of people and address legal problems by giving appropriate legal advice and taking other necessary steps.

CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL VOTERS DAY

Along with the rest of the country, the District Election Officer, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin will be celebrating the 8th National Voter’s Day on the 25th January, 2018 at TRYSEM Hall, Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Nongstoin at 11:00 AM under the theme “Accessible Election” with the objective to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process and facilitate Persons with Disabilities in the electoral process. Similarly, all Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are also requested to organize similar programmes at the Booth level and invite EROs/AEROs and Sector Magistrates to take part in their programmes. The BLOs in each polling station area shall facilitate the newly registered voters on in a brief ceremony/public function. A badge with its logo with the slogan “Proud to be a Voters-Ready to vote” shall also be provided by the BLOs to the new electors during the felicitation ceremony along with their EPIC. Millennium Voters identified during the Summary Revision may be felicitated during the National Voter’s Day function at the booth level by the BLOs and those BLOs falling in Nongstoin Town area shall mobilize New Voters and Millennium Voters to attend the programme at the District Level on the 25th January, 2018 at TRYSEM Hall, DC’s Office, Nongstoin at 11:00 AM. Chunav Paathshalas meetings cum awareness programmes shall be held in all Polling Stations by the BLOs and the executive members on the 25th January, 2018.

SALE OF MEGHALAYA CALENDARS 2018

This is for general information that the Meghalaya multi page calendar and single page calendar 2018 will be put on sale from 19th January, 2018 onwards from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the site of the old office building of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Lower Lachumiere, Shillong, Near Passport Seva Kendra. The price of multi page calendar is Rs.80/- while that of single page is Rs.20/-

MEGHALAYA LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS ANNOUNCED

The Election Commission of India has today announced the date for the Elections to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly 2018, informed the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya, Shri.F.R Kharkongor while addressing media persons at the Conference Hall, Meghalaya Main Secretariat, Shillong. He said that the date of Issue of Gazette Notification is on 31st January 2018, the last date for filing of Nominations is on 7th February 2018 while the date for Scrutiny of Nominations is on 8th February 2018 and the date for Withdrawal of candidatures is on 12th February 2018.The Date of Polling in respect of Meghalaya is on 27th February 2018 while Counting of votes will be held on 3rd March 2018. It may be mentioned that the term of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will expire on 6th March 2018. Shri. Kharkongor also informed that with the announcement of the polls, the Model Code of Conduct comes into force with immediate effect, adding that all the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct will apply to the whole of Meghalaya and will be applicable to all candidates, political parties and, the State Government. The Model Code of Conduct shall also be applicable to the Union Government in so far as announcements/ policy decisions pertaining to the State of Meghalaya is concerned. With regards to the ceiling of election expenses for candidates, he informed that as per the revised ceilings, the maximum limit of election expenses for the Assembly Constituencies is Rs. 20 lakhs per candidate and the candidates are required to furnish their accounts of expenditure within 30 days of declaration of results. The CEO, Meghalaya further informed that Webcasting will be used for the first time in Meghalaya in 193 identified polling stations for LIVE monitoring of the election process. Also, 60 All Women Managed Polling Stations, one in each constituency, manned by women polling staff, women police and women security personnel will be introduced in this election. He also added that VVPATs will be used in all the polling stations across the State of Meghalaya while also informing that the total number of electorates in the State as per the final rolls is 1831487, with a total number of 3082 polling stations in the 60 Assembly Constituencies of the State. He further added that, of the 3082 Polling Stations, 2025 are classified as Normal Polling Stations, 536 as vulnerable, 454 as critical and 67 as both vulnerable and critical. He also said that over 21 thousand polling officials would be engaged in the conduct of the entire election process.
