LOCAL HOLIDAY DECLARED IN WEST GARO HILLS

Shillong, October 19, 2011: In view of the ensuing Wangala celebrations in the month of November, the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills has declared local holiday on 10th November, 2011 in the District.

The notification stated that the local holiday applies to all State Government Offices, Magisterial Courts, Revenue and Educational institutions in West Garo Hills district and that the mentioned offices and institutions would remain closed on the above date.

TWO- DAY WORKSHOP ON DEVELOPMENT PARADIGMS IN THE NORTHEAST CONCLUDES

Shillong, October 19, 2011: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma attended the valedictory function of the Two- day workshop on “Development Paradigms in the Northeast” which was organized by the Research Centre for Eastern and North Eastern Regional Studies, Kolkata and supported by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and Government of Meghalaya today at the NEC Auditorium, Shillong.

The workshop which was divided into many sessions and some of the eminent speakers for the different sessions are Shri Phalguni Raj Kumar, former Secretary NEC, Lt. Gen. J.R. Mukherjee, VSM,AVSM,PVSM, former Chief of Staff, Eastern Air Command, Smti Patricia Mukhim, Editor, The Shillong Times and Shri Aloke Sen, former Indian Ambassador to Myanmar. The Workshop was well attended by Senior Government officials from most of the North Eastern States, Defence Officers, members of the public and college students.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sangma said that North Eastern Region with it abundant natural resources needs customised planning and structured policies based on the potentialities of the Region. While asserting that planning for new initiatives in the field of agriculture, horticulture and other sectors should ensure sustainability of productivity, Mr. Sangma said that marketing of such produce should invariably be developed first inside the State itself and then to other part of the country.

Stating that complete involvement of stakeholders in any government project is a must, Dr. Sangma said capacity building programmes should be undertaken to familiarize and train targeted people for the successful execution and implementation of such government project.

Dr. Mukul also informed that the Government is taking steps for the healthy growth of the State in the field of sports and education.
