KYLLANG ROCK FESTIVAL 2012

Shillong, December 19, 2012: KYLLANG ROCK 2012, a Winter Festival and electoral awareness (SVEEP) and Pre-Christmas celebration organized by the Mairang Civil Sub-Division Officers Club (MACSOC) was celebrated at Mairang on 17th December 2012. The festival which was sponsored by the District Arts and Culture Society, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin and Election Department, Government of Meghalaya kick-started with the Auto Rickshaw Rally which was flagged off by the SDO (C), Mairang Civil Sub-Division, Mr. B Mawlong from his office premises to Kyllang and ended at the KSA Ground Mairang.

Addressing the gathering Mr. Mawlong appreciated the active and enthusiastic participation of the local people especially the auto-drivers and students who turn up to take part in the festival. He also deliberated at length on the rules and regulations and significance of the election process. He therefore called upon the public especially the youth who have attained 18 years to come forward and enroll themselves to vote.

Later on the day a ladies football match between Pyndengumiong Sports Club and Mairang Mission sports club where Mairang Mission sports club bagged the winning trophy and carried away a cash award of Rs. 4000/ while the runners up team received Rs 2000/- as cash prize along with the trophy.

The local MLA Mr. M Lyngdoh, the Chief Guest on the event appreciated the organizers for organizing the winter festival which facilitates a closer relationship between the government missionaries with the people of the area. He added that such programmes should be organized on an annual basis.

Mr. Rasor Rani, local MDC was the Chief Guest at the Cultural Programme, Fashion Show and musical concert performed by the Strait Brothers, Gospellers and the local Band.

STRATEGIC PLANNING WORKSHOP HELD

Shillong, December 19, 2012: Indian Red Cross Society, Meghalaya Branch, Shillong organized a workshop on Strategic Planning which was inaugurated by the chief guest Mr. W. R. Marbaniang retired IPS, Member of the managing committee of Indian Red Cross.

In his inaugural speech Mr. W. R. Marbaniang said that Indian Red Cross is a neutral organization where we get our strength. It follows its fundamental principals which are humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universal. He also said that it should also emphasize on gender sensitization and re-habilitation.

It may be mentioned that the biggest humanitarian organization was constituted on 20th March 1920 by an act of parliament. Basically it achieved on health, disaster management, first aid but work beyond in terms of activities.

Shillong, December 19, 2012: The Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has informed that Whole meal Atta for the month of June, July, August and September 2012 is being distributed through the fair price shops at the scale of 2122 grams per head for Rs. 7.80p per kg.

Any non supply or overcharging of the rate by the suppliers may be brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District with all details.

MEGHALAYA YEAR OF YOUTH 2012 INAUGURATED

Shillong, December 19, 2012: The Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri. B.M. Lanong inaugurated the 3 days Rural Youth Festival which kick off on 17 th December 2012 at St. John Bosco Auditorium , Sohra in the presence of Dr. P.W.Khongjee, Parliamentary Secretary of Tourism, Shri. C.V.D. Diengdoh, Sub-Divisional Officer ( C), Sohra Sub-Division and other dignitaries. The programme was organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Shillong in collaboration with Deptt. Of Sports & youth Affairs, District Administration and Sub-divisional officer ( C), Sohra Sub-Division.

The 3 days programme comprised of Training for Youth Club Leaders, Group Discussion, Presentation & Preparing Development Future Plans, Cherra Cleaning Campaign which was part of Mega Work Camp, a one act play on Soso Tham(Poet laurette),Mock Tourist Guide & Village Tourism etc. The department stalls which were set up on this occasion served as information outlets for the youth.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lanong said that the Year of the Youth 2012 was observed with a view to motivate the youth to be able to adapt themselves with the changing of times and situation. He said that in Meghalaya, out of 30 lakhs of population more than 65 percent were youth between the age group of 14-21 yrs. He said that Meghalaya is marching ahead in every field and he hoped that this programme will serve as an opportunity for the youth to develop their mindsets and at the same time it would serve as an awareness campaign in preserving the environment and make Cherrapunjee the World’s Tourist Destination. He then wished the programme a success.

Amongst others who spoke on the occasion were Dr. P.W. Khongjee, M.L.A ,Sohra, Shri.C.V.D. Diengdoh, Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Sohra, Sub Division, Shri. R P S. Thakur, Zonal Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Meghalaya.

Also, 6 Mentor Youth Club received a grant of Rs 10,000/-each. Hima Mylliem Youth welfare Organisation received a Certificate of Honour and a cash prize of Rs 10,000/- as the Best District Youth Club.

Dr. Salam D. Singh, DYC, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Shillong delivered a keynote and welcome address while Mr. Bobby Wahlang, State Organising committee, Meghalaya year of the youth offered the vote of thanks.

PASSED OUT STUDENTS FELICITATED

Shillong, December 19, 2012: The Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, Shri.W. M. S. Pariat felicitated today the First three students of LarSing Khongwir Memorial Presbyterian School who cleared their last S.S.L.C Examination 2011 in the 2nd Division in the presence of Mr.C.V.D Diengdoh, IAS, Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Sohra Sub-Division at LarSing Khongwir Memorial Presbyterian School, Mawsmai, the first school in Khasi & Jaintia Hills that was ever established by the missionaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pariat congratulated these students for their dedication and hard work. He added that Higher Secondary Schools in Meghalaya are less in number and we are not at par with other states in the country. He lauded the tireless efforts and the service rendered by the members of the School’s Managing committee in reviving the school back to what it is now. He stressed upon students about determination and dedication towards their studies and be at their best so as to attain higher posts in the society. He urged upon one and all to avail the benefits offered by the government through programmes which were specially organized for the youth. He handed over the prize to the felicitated students.

Addressing on the occasion, Mr. Diengdoh said that it is through some kind of exposure that would motivate students to earn success through hardwork, devotion, discipline and dedication. He concluded by saying that ‘Success depends upon performance of students along with teachers’.

Mr. P. Sohkhlet, Secretary of Mawsmai Presbyterian Church gave a short speech on the school.

Mr. K. Khyriem, Elder of Mawsmai Presbyterian Church who chaired the occasion welcomes those presence with a prayer while Mr. S. Pyngrope, member of the School Managing Committee offered the vote of thanks.
