NOTIFICATION

The Government of Meghalaya has revised the fares inclusive passenger tax and freights for journey by Mini Bus – Stage Carriage (other than by City Bus/Mini Bus in Shillong) or Contract Carriage. This was informed by the Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Transport Department. The Maximum fare for Contract Carriage, Stage Carriage and Mini Bus on all routes in the State shall be Rs. 1.05 paise per Passenger per km or part thereof. Personal effects below 14 kgs shall be carried of charge and personal effects over 14 kgs shall be charged on payments of Rs. 0.60 paise per Quintal per km or part thereof, the amount of freight may be rounded off to the nearest 0.50 paise. Children over 3 (three) years and below 12 (twelve) years of age shall be charged at half rate and those below 3 (three) years of age shall be carried free of Charge. Goods in bulk (Non-perishable) including food stuff and forest products will be charged at Rs. 0.70 paise per Quintal per km and other Goods including furnitures at Rs. 1.75 paise per Quintal per km. While calculating the distance fraction of km shall be taken as 1 km. No maximum rates are fixed for carriages of Livestock on live animals except that birds and animals packed in boxes or baskets shall be charged on the basis of Weights. The revised rates shall come into force with immediate effect.

EXIT POLL PROHIBITED

Whereas, the schedule for the Bye-Election to the Legislative Assembly in the State of Meghalaya for 51-South Tura (ST) Assembly Constituency and 35-Ranikor (ST) Assembly Constituency has been announced by the Election Commission of India and whereas as per provisions of Section 126A or the RP Act, 1951 there shall be restrictions on conduct of any exit poll and publication and dissemination of result of such exit poll during such period as may be notified by the Election Commission in this regard. The Election Commission having regard to the provisions of Sub-Section (2)(b) of the said Section hereby notifies the period between 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM on 23.8.2018 as the period during which conduct of any exit poll and publishing or publicizing by means of the print and electronic media or dissemination in any other manner whatsoever, the result of any exit poll in connection with the said bye-elections shall be prohibited. It is further clarified that under Section 126(1)(b) of the RP Act, 1951, displaying any election matter including results of any opinion poll or any other poll survey, in any electronic media, would be prohibited during the period of 48 hours ending with the hours fixed for conclusion of poll for the aforesaid bye-election.
