RENEWABLE ENERGY DAY OBSERVED

In a bid to foster awareness on the judicious use of Energy, Renewable Energy Day was observed on November 14, 2006 at Resubelpara, East Garo Hills District. Organized by the Civil Administration in collaboration with NGOs and heads of Educational Institutions, the programme saw the participation of eight schools in Quiz, Extempore, Drawing, Paiting competitions etc. Earlier that morning a Marathon Race was flagged of By Mr. Hajong. QUAMI EKTA WEEK OBSERVED

To preserve and strengthen the integrity of the nation “Quami Ekta Week” is being observed in the State from November 19, 2006. Meghalaya Minister for Secretariat Administration Department etc., Mr. Martle Mukhim administered the National Integration Pledge to the officials and staff of various Government Departments at the Main Secretariat, Rilang Building, Shillong on November 21, 2006.

2ND SHG MEET-CUM-EXHIBITION-CUM-SALES OF WORKS TO BE HELD

The District Rural Development Agency, East Khasi Hills District is organizing a “2nd one day SHG Meet – cum- Exhibition-cum Sales of Works” on December 16m 2006 at the Shillong Club premises from 10:00 AM onwards. The purpose of the Meet is to boost up healthy environment and competitive spirit amongst the SHG’s by way of giving recognition to the best SHG’s, best performance Block and Bank Branch Manger through presentation of Awards.

Apart from the exhibition and sales of work a panel discussion of experts of Rural Development Programmes and interaction with members of SHGs has also been arranged under the Chairmanship of Dr. A.K. Nongkyngrih, Reader in Sociology, NEHU. The Meet will be attended by selected Swarozgaris of all SHGs from all the 8(eight) blocks of the District.

DISPOSAL OF WASTE GARBAGE IN NONGBAH RIVER PROBIHITED

The Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin on receiving report of disposal of waste garbage and washing of vehicles in Nongbah river has promulgated an order under Section 133 Cr. P. C. prohibiting disposal of waste garbage and washing of vehicles in the said river.

This order comes into force with effect from November 17, 2006.

TRAINING OF PMRY SCHEME

The training for the 1st Batch Candidates under PMRY 2006-2007, will commence on November 27, 2006 from 10:30 AM at the Conference Room, D.I.C., Shillong. All beneficiaries whose case has been sanctioned are requested to report positively to the Office of the General Manger, District Industries Centre, Shillong on the above mentioned date and time.

MUKTIEH VISITS UMWIEHSHIH VILLAGE

Meghalaya Deputy Speaker and local MLA, Mr. P. W. Muktieh, attended a meeting organized by the Church of God on November 17, 2006 at Umwiehshih village, Ri Bhoi District.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Muktieh lauded the services of the different churches to the society, particularly in the field of education. Stressing on the importance of maintaining peace and unity, he said the Church’s contribution in spreading this ideology was extremely important. Mr. Muktieh also spoke at length about the development requirements of the area.

Mr. Muktieh further contributed church bells and cooking materials to the Church on the day.

The following day, i.e November 18, 2006 Mr. Muktieh attended the finals of a football tournament at Umlaper, Ri Bhoi District, organized by the local Sports Club, in which Mawker Sports Club emerged champions defeating Umlaper Sports Club by a solitary goal.

Speaking during the prize distribution ceremony, Mr. Muktieh encouraged the players to follow their dream and not to give up even when the odds are stacked against them. Adding that a good playground is one of the foremost requirements of the area, he assured the people of his cooperation in fulfilling this requirement in the near future.

ICDS CENTRE INAUGURATED AT DIWON

Meghalaya former Chief Minister and Chairman, Meghalaya Economic Development Council (MEDC) Dr. D D Lapang inaugurated the I C D S Centre at Diwon village, Ri Bhoi District on November 20, 2006. The I C D S Centre is being constructed by the office of the Child Development Project Officer, Umling Block.

In his speech, Dr. Lapang expressed his happiness that development projects could be implemented in the area through different department for the welfare and the interest of the people. He also said that the centre would immensely benefit not only the children but also the pregnant women in particular. He also urged upon the Anganwadi workers to work hard and give the best service to the people for the overall development of the society.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Ms. M Kharbhih, CDPO, Umling, Mr. C B Syiem, MDC and others while the meeting was presided over by Mr. W Laloo, Rangbah Shnong, Diwon.

Later, Dr. Lapang attended the final football at Umden playground organized by the Umden Area Youth Congress Committee.

SCHOOL FOOTPATH INAUGURATED

Meghalaya former Chief Minister and Chairman, Meghalaya Economic Development Council (MEDC) Dr. D D Lapang inaugurated the footpath of the Catholic Upper Primary School at Umshorshor, Kyrdemkulai, Ri Bhoi District recently. Dr. Lapang was accompanied by Mr. W Marbaniang, E E (PHE), Umsning, Fr. Himamaidas, Parish Priest, Umsning and Ms. V Kharnaior, chairperson, Umsning C & R D Block.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Lapang said that the School has played a vital role in spreading quality education to the students, adding that the development of the School from its humble beginning reflects the far sightedness of the people who have nourished and raised the School to its present status. He then informed that the ICAR Horticulture Agriculture College would be set up in Umiam, Ri Bhoi District.

DSYA TO COMMEMORATE WORLD DISABILITY DAY

To commemorate World Disability Day, the Directorate of Sports and youth Affairs (DSYA) Meghalaya in collaboration with the Commissioner of Disabilities will conduct a Sports Meet on December 1, 2006 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports J.N. Sports Complex, Polo ground Shillong from 9:00 AM onwards.
