TRAINING ON LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Shillong, February 22, 2011: A two-days training on “Leadership Development Programme” organised by the National Cooperation of India Education Field Project, Shillong was held at the Conference Hall of the Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Sohra on February 21, 2011 wherein Dr. P.W. Khongjee, Parliamentary Secretary, Health and Tourism was the Chief Guest

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Khongjee lauded the staff of the department for organizing the programme which would benefit the people at large. He said that most of the people of Cherrapunjee greatly depend on Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited and the time has come for people to look for other employment avenues in enhancing their economic conditions. He urged upon the people to avail every opportunity offered by the government so as to bring about changes in their socio-economic conditions. He therefore stressed upon the need of creating awareness and cooperation amongst people so as to bring about socio-economic development.

DFP ORGANIZE AWARENESS PROGRAMME

Shillong, February 22, 2011: The Directorate of Field Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with the office of Child Development Project Officer, Baghmara, South Garo Hills District, organized a series of awareness programme in four villages of Baghmara Block at Dabram, Nengkong, Siju and Mindikgre.

Mr. N P Gupta, Executive Engineer PHE and Mr. Ajit Momin, SDO, PHE who attended the programme as resource persons spoke on issues relating to Total Sanitation Campaign and the importance of Community Participation and ICDS Programme.

People took active part and seek enquiry about many issues during the interactive session. An extempore speech competition on Total Sanitation Campaign and ICD Programme were also conducted as part of the programme.

DS GROUP DISTRIBUTES SCHOOL KIT IN SOUTH GARO HILLS

Shillong, February 22, 2011: As many as 1015 school kit were distributed by the Dharampal Satyapal (DS) Group to more than one thousand Government LP School children of the selected LP Schools of South Garo Hills District. The kits were distributed in the presence of the Deputy Inspector of School, Baghmara, Mr. B G Momin.

According to one of the group members, the Dharampal Satyapal Group is an upcoming company in various developmental business in North East like rubber, steel and package industry, hospitality, cement industry and is looking to setup a Thermal Power Plant of 40MW at Era Aning in South Garo Hills District. The distribution of school kit is their initial stage of helping the rural poor in the District, he added.

Mr B G Momin, Inspector of School, in his brief address, expressed his gratitude and appreciation towards the DS Group for their noble initiation in extending their helping hand to uplift the education scenario of the most backward areas of the District and expressed hoped that in future the Group will come up with some more ideas of helping the rural poor.

TRAINING ON TOTAL SANITATION CAMPAIGN

Shillong, February 22, 2011: A five -day training programme on Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) organized by the office of the Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering (PHE) got underway on February 21, 2011 at Baghmara, South Garo Hills District. The training programme was attended by all the BDOs of the four blocks of the District, CDPOs, District officials, NGOs and the public.

The Deputy Commissioner, South Garo Hills-cum-Chairman District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM), Dr. B D R Tiwari, in his address as the Chief Guest, expressed the need for faster implementation of TSC work to make all rural villages fully sanitized within the time frame. He informed that under TSC, the DWSM is to ensure that all BPL families as well as APL families should have access to safe sanitation and subsequently to ensure that whole village is fully sanitized by constructing safe toilet in individual household for those who do not have this basic need and also for schools/anganwadis.

Mr. Tiwari urged the gathering to imbibe upon the information received during the training programme so that the whole District will be open defecation free District. He also mentioned that under TSC, there are incentives for Rs. 50,000/- for the cleanest village and under NREGS there are some awards for the cleanest village.

Earlier, Mr. N P Gupta, EE (PHE) in his welcome address said that the DWSM is the District level body whose primary function is to formulate, implement and monitor functioning of water supply and sanitation for villages in the District. Moreover, this campaign is basically meant to put forward the dedicated workers on TSC and DWSM activities.

Mr. Daniel Ingty, Project Director MRDS, Mr. R P Marak, PD, DRDA and Mr. D D Sangma, ADC were among others who spoke on the occasion.

Mr. Prakash Birendra and Mrs. Amrita of Feedback Venture Group Gurgaon were the master trainers of the five day target-oriented mission training programme.
