H.D.R. LYNGDOH INAUGURATES THE CENTRE FOR ANTHURIUM AT WILLIAMNAGAR

The Meghalaya Minister for Horticulture, Mr. H. D. R Lyngdoh inaugurated the Centre for Excellence for Anthurium at Samgong, Williamnagar in the presence of Meghalaya Minister for Mining & Geology, Mrs. D C Marak who is also the local MLA on August 20, 2005. The centre for Anthurium is the first of its kind in the State of Meghalaya and the cost of this project is around 75 lakh.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lyngdoh informed that Anthurium has got a high demand not only in Indian market but also outside. He then informed that the Department has already selected around forty farmers from the area to undertake the cultivation of this low volume high income crops at the subsidize rate.

Mr. Lyngdoh also underlined that peace and security in the State is very important so that the Government can undertake the developmental work and express that agitation and picketing in the state is one of a great draw back in the economy. Therefore, he called upon the people of the District and the State as a whole to restraint themselves from any agitation which hampers the development of the State. He then expressed his hope that the Centre for Excellence for Anthurium will benefit not only farmers but will also provide employment opportunities to the educated unemployed youth of the District.
