JOHN ROBERTS THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY DAY CELEBRATED

The Seminary Day of the John Roberts Theological Seminary (JRTS), Mawklot, East Khasi Hills was observed on November 21, 2005, wherein the Meghalaya Governor, Mr. M. M. Jacob graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Appreciating the ingenuity of the missionaries in locating this institution in these picturesque hills of Meghalaya, Mr. Jacob, in his speech, said, “A theological college like this has great responsibility in moulding and shaping responsible citizens of our country”. He then said that the missionaries has played a great role in promoting education in different corners of the country adding that “It is only after the advent of the Christian missionary, education has spread to every nook and corner of the country and has not remained confined to the few”.

Stating that the aims and objectives of this college is to impart sound knowledge and academic skills for the study of the Bible, Theology and other relevant disciplines, Mr. Jacob felt the need for the Seminary to organize community development programmes. He then called upon the Christian community to act as torch in spreading the message of love and peace. Stating that in this fast changing world, a great role and responsibility lies with the future pastors and church leaders, he also called upon them to channelize all the resources and energy for the betterment of the region and the country as a whole.

Mr. Jacob also paid homage to Rev. Dr. John Roberts, the founder Principal of the College and to other educationists who sacrificed their lives for this institution.

Earlier, Rev. E.H. Kharkongor read a brief annual report on the different activities of the Seminary during the year 2004-05 and the annual college calendar 2006 was also released. Among other dignitaries present in the function were Meghalaya Urban Affairs Minister, Mr. Friday Lyngdoh and Parliamentary Secretary Mr. J.A. Lyngdoh.
