In his speech, Mr. Mooshahary acknowledge the sacrifice made by the personnel of the Assam Rifles and at the same time congratulated the awardees for their stupendous performance in such inhospital and daunting circumstances against all odds. He also lauded the ‘Sentinels of the North East’ for being the fountain head of many developmental activities in the rural areas, far flung and backward region of the North East

It may be mentioned that the Assam Rifles is one of the oldest Para Military force in the country. It’s long and chequered history of dedicated service to the nation is rightfully characterized by unmatched gallantry, dedication, selfless service and total commitment and sacrifice. The only Para Military to have taken part in both the Worlds Wars, 1962 war against China, operation in Sri Lanka and Counter Insurgency operation in the North East, Jammu & Kashmir and all operations in Independent India, the large number of gallantry awards won by its personnel validate its position as the premiere security force in the nation today.

The Force has rendered invaluable service to the people of the region, identifying itself with the local people, helping in their economic upliftment and progress. In its pioneering efforts to open up the North East region, Assam Rifles dispatched its detachment and establishment post in remote areas, around which the Civil Administration gradually developed.
