NOTICE

Shillong, January 24, 2013: The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills has informed that one male decomposed dead body was found inside the jungle at Ryngi Diengan under Sohryngkham OP on 21.1.2013 and the dead body is kept at the Shillong Civil Hospital Morgue. FINAL LIST OF POLLING STATIONS

Shillong, January 24, 2013: In connection with the General Election to the Legislative Assembly 2013, the District Election Officer, West Jaintia Hills District has informed that the final list of polling stations with respect to the Assembly Constituencies of 1-Nartiang (ST), 2-Jowai (ST), 3-Raliang (ST), 4- Mowkaiaw (ST) and 7-Amlarem (ST) within the 1-Shillong Parliamentary Constituency have been published in accordance with Section 25 of the Representative of People’s Act.1951

The name of the polling station and building in which the polling station is located can be inspected at the office of the District Election Officer, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai.

NOTICE

Shillong, January 24, 2013: In compliance with the direction of the Election Commission of India, the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District has informed the general public that any offer of cash, liquor, gift items or free food to the electors during the election process is bribe. Both the persons, offering and accepting such bribe are liable for punishment with imprisonment upto one year and fine.

Flying squads and surveillance teams have been formed to keep watch over such activities during the election process.

In the event of such incidents, members of the public can contact the Complaint Monitoring Cell set up in the District at 8575063501 and 8575063502 in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Nongstoin and 875063503 in the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Mairang.

DRY DAY DECLARED IN WEST KHASI HILLS

Shillong, January 24, 2013: The Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District has declared the 26th January, 2013 as Dry Day throughout the District on account of Republic Day.

All liquor shops/IMFL shops/bars/hotels/canteen/CS shops/outstills shall remain closed on the above mentioned date.

NIGHT OF 1000 LIGHTS

Shillong, January 24, 2013: The Night of 1000 Lights and Phawar Competition was held on 24th January 2013 at State Central Library, Shillong as part of the National Voter’s Day, 2013. The programme was organized by District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong.

Local Durbars, Youth Organisations and groups participated in the programme by marching from their localities to the venue carrying traditional Dongmusa or candles accompanied by drum beating as a symbolic lighting of the 1000 Lights.

Deputy Commissioner, Mr Sanjay Goyal, said that the concept of the event is to ensure better participation from the people by encouraging them to come forward and exercise their franchise in the coming up elections and to motivate the people on the importance of their vote. The election Commission has been running a comprehensive Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign to attract and educate voters across the country, especially the youth and the women.

He also informed that various programmes are being organized with a motive to ensure maximum participation in the upcoming elections and the procession was held with an aim to inculcate a sense of responsibility among the people especially the youth.

While mentioning that most of the country’s population was youth, the Deputy Commissioner said that it is important that they should enroll themselves and cast their votes.

Mr. Banker Kharkongor bagged the first, Jeevan Roy Creative Arts the second and Michael Wanshong bagged the third in Phawar competition and were presented a certificate and cash prizes. The function ended with a display of fireworks.
