TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF ROAD

Shillong, September 24, 2012: The Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), Ranikor Division has informed that the MBGM road (portion Balat Bagli road) from Umpung to Phodkroh is closed to all vehicular traffic due to collapse of bridge at 8th Km. Temporary restoration work is in progress.

RAKSHA MANTRIS DISCRETIONARY FUND AND PMSS FOR ESM AND WIDOWS

Shillong, September 24, 2012: The Director, Sainik Welfare has informed all ex-servicemen and widows that Raksha Mantri’s Discretionary Fund is offered for children education grant, marriage grant, medical grant, house repair grant, penury grant, funeral grant, orphan grant and disabled children grant, etc.

Further, Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) is also offered for wards of ex-servicemen and widows for those who are pursuing professional degree courses.

Interested persons can contact nearest District Zila Sainik Board or Welfare Organiser for these grants and PMSS.

DECOMPOSED MALE BODY FOUND

Shillong, September 24, 2012: The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, has informed that on 18.9.2012, one highly decomposed male body beyond recognition was found at Mawlyndep jungle under Sohryngkham Police Out Post. The male is approximately 5’6” in height and dressed in blue jeans, white shirt and Assamese gamocha.

SPECIAL INTERACTIVE PROGRAMME HELD AT ORAGITOK

Shillong, Sept 21, 2012: In a continued effort at educating the people about government’s programs and schemes, the office of the Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations, Tura, organized a day-long Special Interactive Programme at Oragitok Secondary School, under Rongram C&RD Block.

During the programme, officials from various departments gave a talk on their departmental activities and schemes available with them and also replied to queries put forward by the people.

Assistant Director, Information & Public Relations, Tura, Mr. F.K Marak welcomed the gathering and also highlighted the objectives of the programme.

Village elder and Secretary of the School, Mr. H. A. Sangma also addressed the gathering as the chief guest at the inaugural function and thanked the organizers saying that such a programme would not only educate the people about the developmental activities of the government but also motivate them to participate in implementation of such schemes.

The resource persons from various departments include Medical Officer of Asanang PHC, Dr. Albert M. Sangma, Industrial Promotion Officers from District Commerce and Industrial Centre, Tura, Ms. B. D. Shira and Mr. T.R.Marak, Veterinary Officer of Rongram Block, Ms. V.A.Sangma and Sub-Divisional Public Relations Officer, Ampati Mr. W.G. Momin, while the Headmaster of Oragitok Secondary School, Mr. G. Marak presided over the programme.

Despite the incessant rains, the programme was well attended by local people of the area as well as students and teachers of the school.

WORLD TOURISM DAY TO BE CELEBRATED

Shillong, September 24, 2012: The Department of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya will celebrate World Tourism Day on September 27, 2012 at State Central Library premises from 11.00 am onwards.

The theme selected by the World Tourism organization (UNWTO) for this year celebration is “Tourism and Sustainable energy powering sustainable development.”

The programmes organize for this year will include quiz fro students, food festival and musical evening. Participation from the State Council of Science, Technology and Environment, Government of Meghalaya and the Meghalaya Non-Conventional and Rural Energy Development Agency will highlight areas related to the theme.

This was informed by the Director of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya.
