SPECIAL INTENSIFIED MISSION INDRADHANUSH

South West Garo Hills district has created a record of sorts by achieving 100 percent coverage in immunization of children and pregnant mothers during the third round of Special Intensified Mission Indradhanush (SIMI) under Grameen Swaraj Abhiyan which concluded on June 22, last. It may be recalled that the district achieved 99.3 percent immunization coverage of the target beneficiaries during the second round of the campaign. During the third round the target beneficiaries were 51 children in the age group of 0-2 years and three pregnant mothers, who were all covered successfully in 21 sessions. “Prior visits before the immunization, counselling sessions and meeting with mothers conducted by supervisors and workers helped a great extent in bringing about the achievement”, said SDH&MO and DIO, Ampati, Dr. Calvaryn K. Sangma. It may also be mentioned that the district health team had left no stone unturned to ensure that all the target beneficiaries in every nook and corner of the district were covered through house to house visits before every round of immunization. Whenever a beneficiary failed to turn up at the designated session site the workers even went over to the beneficiary’s house to persuade and bring them for immunization. Due to the consistent efforts of the district team many of the villages in the district have also been motivated to participate in the health programmes in their respective areas and ensure their success. Apart from this, the District Administration of South West Garo Hills led by Deputy Commissioner H.D.B. Sangma has ensured the success of the campaign by providing all the required support and guidance, including the mobility support, Dr. Sangma said and further attributed the success of the campaign to the team effort of all members of District Task Force on Immunization (DTFI), including the DM&HO, Dr. K.A.Sangma and medical officers of the district, BDOs, CDPOs, district and block monitors, Anganwadi workers, nokmas, gaonburas, teachers and all health workers.

AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON FIELD LEVEL FINANCIAL EVENT

In order to spread financial awareness among the masses and introduce to every individual about formal financial system, the Reserve Bank of India, Shillong has today conducted a one day “ field level financial literacy awareness event” at St. Alfred Secondary School, Sarikushi village which is under Umling Block. The awareness programme was inaugurated by the BDO Umling Block Smt. V.Hynniewta MCS in the presence of the Representatives of NABARD and Commercial Banks like AXIS Bank, Meghalaya Rural Bank, HDFC operating in the area besides a senior officials from RBI, Shillong. The programme was attended by the villagers of Sarikushi and other villages. The Assistance General Manager of RBI Shri L.Hangmuanthang in his address highlighted the importance of financial literacy and financial inclusion for the benefit of the general public. He also explained how the functions and activities of RBI directly or indirectly affects the general public. He further urged upon every stakeholders including banks and government department to create awareness and provide the best possible services as the unfilled gaps generally breeds fraudsters. Furthermore, the official of RBI Shillong and AXIS Bank also briefed on the needs for financial planning and budgeting, precaution from fraudulent e-mails, SMS, Phone calls and fraudulent companies, grievance redressal mechanism in the banking system, features of genuine currency notes, the need for maintaining credit discipline and new developments in the field of digital transactions such as UPI, BHIM, USSD etc.
