SECTION 144 CrPC EXTENDED AT SOHRA SUB-DIVISION

The Sub- Divisional Magistrate, Sohra Civil Sub-Division has extended an order under section 144 CrPC, which was promulgated on August 4, 2004, prohibiting wanton destruction of fishes by illegal means such as poisoning and blasting etc,.

Any one found violating this proclamation will be dealt with according to the provision of law presently in force.

This order will remain in force with immediate effect until further orders.

DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS SET UP TWO PROJECTS

The Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Meghalaya, Shillong, has informed that as part of the World Consumer Day celebrations on March 15, 2005, the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India has launched two landmark projects, the National Consumer Helpline and the Consumer on Line Resources and empowerment (CORE).

The National Consumer Helpline has been set up in collaboration with the Delhi University where a consumer from anywhere in India can dial toll free number 1600 11 4000 from any BSNL or MTNL telephone line and seek advice regarding any consumer problem between 9:30 A.M. and 5:30 P.M. on all working days. The Consumer on Line Resources and Empowerment (CORE) project, set up in collaboration with the Consumer Coordination Council, New Delhi, is a federation of about 51 voluntary consumer organisations from all over the country. Individual consumers can access the Website www.core.nic.in to lodge their complaint or know about latest news in the area of consumer protection and welfare.

Public consumers in Meghalaya are requested to note the facilities indicated above and avail them whenever considered necessary.
