REGIONAL MEET OF STATE LEGAL SERVICES AUTHORITIES OF NORTH EASTERN REGION

The Regional Meet of State Legal Services Authorities of North Eastern Region organised by National Legal Services Authority and Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) will be held on the 27th September, 2017 at 9:45 AM at the State Convention Centre, Shillong. This was informed by the Member Secretary MSLSA. The Meet will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Judge, Supreme Court of India and the Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority in presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Chief Justice, High Court of Meghalaya and Patron-in-Chief of Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sudip Ranjan Sen, Judge, High Court of Meghalaya and Executive Chairman, Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority and the Hon’ble Chief Justices and the Hon’ble Executive Chairmen of the North Eastern Region and distinguished guests.

SUMMARY REVISION OF ELECTORAL ROLLS

The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of 30-Mairang (ST) and 31-Mawthadraishan (ST) Assembly Constituencies has informed that the Election Commission of India has drawn up detail schedules for Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls with reference to 1stJanuary, 2018 as qualifying date and draft Photo Electoral Roll for the above constituencies are available for inspection at the office of the ERO/Asst ERO and at all polling stations. Under this revision of electoral rolls, the publication of Draft Electoral Rolls will begin from 27.09.2017, the Filling of Claims and Objections period is to be from 27.09.17 to 31.10.17, the date for Reading of Relevant part/section of Photo Electoral rolls in Gram Sabha/Local Bodies and RWA meetings etc. & verification of names is from 6.10.17 to 18.10.17, Special Campaign dates with Booth Level Agents of Political parties for receiving Claims and Objections from 7.10.17 to 21.10.17, Disposal of Claims and Objections by 13.11.17, Updating the database, merging of photographs updating the control tables and presentation and printing of supplementary list by 19.12.17 and final publication of electoral rolls on 10.01.18.

TRAINING PROGRAMME AND MOCK DRILL ON EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS

The Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with Civil Defence and Home Guards, Government of Meghalaya and St. Edmund’s College, NSS Unit recently organised a three days training programme and mock drill at St. Edmund’s College, Shillong. The programme comprised of two days training sessions and one day mock drill on earthquake preparedness which was imparted by the Civil Defence Team headed by Mr. W Nonglang, Inspector, Central Training Institute, Civil Defence and Home Guards. The presentation and demonstration was done by his team which included bandaging methods, splinting methods, emergency method of rescue/transportation of casualties and earthquake mock drill. Altogether 111 trainees including the faculties and students of the college took part in the training programme.

SAMAGRA SWACHHTA HELD

As part of the nationwide observance of Swachhta Hi Seva, the District Water and Sanitation Mission in collaboration with the PHE Department organized the Samagra Swachhta at Mattilang Park, Laitmynsaw village under Mylliem C&RD Block on 25th September, 2017. Meghalaya Governor, Shri Banwarilal Purohit graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, the Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Banwarilal Purohit said that Swachh Bharat Mission reflects the desire of a common man to clean their surroundings to make it a more liveable place to live in. He also informed the gathering that the forthnight-long Swachhta Hi Seva campaign was launched by the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind at Ishwari Ganj village in Kanpur on 15th September, 2017 and will culminate on the 2nd October, 2017 on the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Citing the example of Mawlynnong village which is the cleanest village in Asia, Shri Banwarilal Purohit said that it is the result of the concerted effort of all the residents which has brought the village into the limelight. “Cleanliness is a multi-stakeholder movement and together we should make the effort to clean our houses, public places, villages and cities. Achieving the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission expeditiously will be an appropriate tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. It is the call of the country to all the citizens of Meghalaya to come forward for the cause and practice cleanliness and sanitation to make the State clean and green”, he added.

Urban Affairs Minister and Local MLA, Shri R. V. Lyngdoh in his brief speech highlighted about the importance of the Swachh Bharat Mission and said that Swachhta Hi Seva campaign aims at cleanliness and the mission to carry forward the vision of Mahatma Gandhi, that of a clean India.

During the function, the Governor of Meghalaya also distributed prizes to the winners of the essay and painting competition organized under the Swachh Sankalp Se Swachh Siddhi and also unveiled the plaque declaring the Mylliem C&RD Block as Open Defecation Free (ODF). The Governor also during the programme let the gathering in taking the Swachhta Hi Seva Pledge.

Local MDC, Smti T. Thangkhiew, Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, PHE Department, Shri D. P. Wahlang, Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, PHE Department & Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), Meghalaya, Shri W. R. Lyngdoh and Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District & Chairman, DWSM, Shri P. S. Dkhar, Rangbah Shnongs, students and teachers of various schools also attended the function.
