REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION 2019 AT SHILLONG

Along with the rest of the country the 70th Republic Day was celebrated at Meghalaya. In the State capital, Shillong, Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Tathagata Roy unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 10 Marching Contingents comprising of Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, ARC, Mizoram Police, DEF, Meghalaya, CSSCS, NCC (Boys and Girls), Meghalaya Bharat Scouts & Guides, Indian Red Cross Society and combined Brass Band of Border Wing Home Guards and Border Security Force at Polo Ground, Shillong. During the celebration, the Governor also handed over the U Tirot Sing Award for Art & Literature to Dr. Phervision Nongtdu and U Kiang Nangbah Award for Sports to Shri Eugene K. Marak. The Governor also distributed the Kayakalp Award for the public health facilities that maintain a high degree of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control practices in line with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to Ganesh Das Government Maternal Child and Health Hospital, Shillong, Nongstoin District Hospital, Mawphlang Community Health Centre and Pomlum, Laitlyngkot, Laitryngew and Jatah Primary Health Centres of East Khasi Hills District.

On the occasion of the Republic Day, the Governor’s Medal, President’s Home Guards & Civil Defence Medal for Distinguished Service, President’s Home Guards & Civil Defence Medal for Distinguished Service and Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service were also announced. The other highlights of the day’s celebration includes song, dance and tableau presentation by departments of Fisheries, Forest and Environment, Horticulture, Social Welfare, Soil and Water Conservation, Agriculture, Public Health Engineering, Commerce and Industries, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, District Executive Force, East Khasi Hills and office of the Chief Electoral Officer. In the tableau presentation, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department bagged the first prize followed by Agriculture in the second prize while the third prize was jointly bagged by Social Welfare and Commerce and Industries Department. As part of the celebration various events were organised in the city which includes football final, fishing competition, entertainment for children and food courts at State Central Library, free entry at Ward’s Lake, Lady Hydari Park, free cinema shows and distribution of food packets by NGOs.

REPUBLIC DAY, 2019 CELEBRATED ACROSS THE STATE

At Tura, Meghalaya Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K Sangma unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 10 Parade Contingents comprising of State police, Tura DEF, Civil Defence and Home Guards, NCC, Girl Guides, Boys Scout Troop and Band Party from 2nd MLP Battalion, Goeragre at Dikki Bandi Stadium, Tura. During the programme, the Chief Minister also presented the Pa Togan N Sangma Award for Social Service to Rev. George Mamalassery DD in recognition for his outstanding and valuable contributions towards the State in particular and country in general. Further, on the occasion the Chief Minister also presented the Certificate of Appreciation to Batsrang A. Sangma from Tebronggre Village for his achievement as Marathon Runner in the region and has recently won the prestigious SBI Green Marathon held at Guwahati last December beating the top runners of the region with outstanding timing of 1:05:05. The Chief Minister also presented Certificate of Appreciation to Successful Entrepreneurs of the region and to Dippu Ch Sangma, Chengkam K Sangma and Tengchan M Sangma for becoming the First Cricketers from Garo Hills to be included in the Meghalaya Ranji Trophy in 2018. During the function, Deputy Commissioner West Garo Hills, Ram Singh presented the Kayakalp Award to Tura Civil Hospital and Babadam Public Health Centre for promoting cleanliness and enhancing the quality of public health facilities in the district. The other highlight of the day’s celebration comprises of colourful dances and patriotic songs performed by school students and College of Home Science including a tableau presentation by various department. Later in the afternoon games and sports were organised for children.

At Williamnagar, PHE Minister, Samlin Malngiang unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 14 parade contingents comprising of the Meghalaya Police, Bharat Scouts & Guides, schools at Rongrenggre Govt. Higher Secondary School playground. The highlights of the celebration included cultural programmes, distribution of fruits, etc. to the patients of Williamnagar Civil Hospital and the inmates of district jail, children's sports and the football match between the DC XI and the Public XI. At Ampati, Health & Family Welfare Minister, Shri A. L. Hek unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 11 parade contingents comprising of Meghalaya Police and Scouts & Guides at Ampati Students’ Field. As part of the celebration, the Minister also distributed food items to the patients at Ampati Civil Hospital. The celebration was marked by colourful cultural programme, children’s sports organized by District Sports Office and distribution of Kayakalp Award to the best PHC and the best VHSNC in the district. At Resubelpara, Urban Affairs Minister, Shri Hamletson Dohling unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 15 Parade contingents at Mini Stadium, Resubelpara. Other highlights of the day include tableau presentation by various departments followed by the cultural programme, sports & games and others. At Baghmara, Social Welfare Minister, Shri Kyrmen Shylla unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 9 marching contingent at District Sports Playground, Baghmara. The other highlights of the day include distribution of Kayakalp Award to Chokpot CHC and Siju PHC, cultural progarmmes, presentation of tableau.

At Jowai, Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 24 contingents comprising of Police, NCC and schools at Jrisalein Playground. Other highlights of the day include presentation of tableau, distribution of Kayakalp award to Nartiang and Shangpung PHC, songs, dance and distribution of food package and gifts to patients at Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital, Civil Hospital and to inmates at District Jail, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai. At Khliehriat, Fisheries Minister, Shri Comingone Ymbon unfurled the National flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 13 marching contingents led by MLP at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School playground. During the day 16 Tableau were presented by various Departments. At Nongstoin, Tourism Minister, Shri Metbah Lyngdoh unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 15 Parade contingents comprising of Police, NCC, Scouts & Guides and schools at New Nongstoin playground. The highlights of the day were tableau presentation, cultural programmes, sports and games, football match, prize distribution to the winners of the various categories and distribution of sweets to patients of civil hospital, orphanage home. At Mawkyrwat, Home Minister, Shri James K. Sangma unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 11 marching contingents comprising of the Police and schools at Maharam Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrwat. The other highlights of the day were tableau presentation, presentation of Kayakalp Award to Mawthawpdah PHC, cultural programmes, sports & games, distribution of sweets and food packages to the inmates of Community Health Centre and Hope Orphanage and Prize Distribution to winners in different competitions conducted throughout the week. At Nongpoh, Transport Minister, Shri Sniawbhalang Dhar unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 15 marching contingents comprising of Ri Bhoi DEF, Scouts & Guides, NCC boys and girls, schools at NSCA Mini Stadium, Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh. Tableau presentation from different departments, patriotic songs and dances and cultural programmes performed by students were the other highlights of the day.

At Sohra Civil Sub-Division, Chairman, State Planning Board, Shri Lambor Malngiang unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the marching contingents comprising of Meghalaya Police, NCC contingents of Ram Krishna Mission School and Schools of Sohra Civil Sub-Division at Sohra Sports Stadium, Saitsohpen, Sohra. The other highlights of the day were distribution of prizes, cultural programmes, distribution of Gift Packages to the patients of Sohra N.R.M Hospital and St. John Orphanage Home, Maraikaphon, Sohra. At Mairang Civil Sub Division, Sports & Youth Affairs Minister, Shri Banteidor Lyngdoh unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 13 parade contingents comprising of Police and School Students at Madan Dommawlum playground. Other highlights of the day include Tableau presentation, cultural programmes, prize distribution and a trekking from Madan Dommawlum to Khudoi falls, Sohtyngkhur village. At Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, Chairman, Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation, Shri Renikton L. Tongkhar unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the parade contingents comprising of 2nd Battalion MLP Goeragre and schools at Dadenggre Play ground. Cultural programmes and distribution of prizes were the highlights of the day. At Amlarem Civil Sub-Division, Chairman, Meghalaya Resource & Employment Generation Council, Shri Marcuise N. Marak unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the parade contingents comprising ofMeghalaya Police and schools. Tableau Presentation by various departments and cultural programmes are the other highlights of the programme. At Pynursla Civil Sub-Division, Chairman, Meghalaya Khadi & Village Industries, Shri Gavin Mylliem unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 8 parade contingents comprising of the police and school students at Urksew Umkor Pynursla Sport Club Stadium.

At Mawshynrut Civil Sub-Division, Deputy Speaker, Shri T. D. Shira unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 8 parade contingents comprising of the Police and School Students at Riangdo playground. Other highlights of the day include cultural items, prize distribution and distribution of gifts to the disabled persons. At Raksamgre Civil Sub-Division, Co-Chairman, State Planning Board, Shri Benedic R. Marak unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the marching contingents, comprising of 2nd MLP Battalion and students of various schools at Raksamgre playground. The daylong celebration included songs and cultural programmes. At Chokpot Civil Sub-Division, Chairman, State Government Programme Implementation & Monitoring Committee, Shri Saleng A. Sangma unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 3 marching contingent at Government Secondary School Playground. Other highlights of the day include children’s sports and games, Tug of War between the Government Officials and the general public. At Ranikor Sub-Division, Chairman, Meghalaya State Law Commission, Shri Macmillan Byrsat unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 7 marching contingents comprising of Meghalaya Police and schools at Nolikata playground. The other highlights of the day were cultural programmes, sports and games for children. At Patharkhmah Administrative Unit, Chairman, Meghalaya Commission on Resource Mobilisation, Shri W. Shylla unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 4 marching contingents comprising of the MLP and school students at Government Higher Secondary School playground, Patharkhmah.
