SWAMI RAMA HUMANITARIAN AWARD 2011

Shillong, May 26, 2011: The Swami Rama Humanitarian Award 2011 will be granted to persons or institutions who worked selflessly towards social, economic and political transformation for the amelioration of human suffering, particularly of the less privileged sections of the society, contributing to social justice and harmony. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 5, 00,000/-, a citation and a plaque.

It may be mentioned that the Swami Rama Humanitarian Award has been constituted by the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust in memory of its founder, H.H. Dr. Swami Rama.

NEW SCHOOL BUILDING FOUNDATION STONE LAID

Shillong, May 26, 2011: Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya, Dr. D D Lapang today laid the foundation stone for the construction of new school building of D. N. S. Wahlang Memorial Secondary School, Mission Compound, Shillong. The function was also attended by Education Minister, Ms. A. Lyngdoh, who grace the occasion as the guest of honour, local MLA of the area, Dr. F. Lyngdoh, Director of School Education and Literacy, Mr. J. D. Sangma, Headmaster of the School, Mr. D. S. Khongwar beside others.

It may be mentioned here that the school was founded in the year 1937 and the construction of the new school building is being funded and financed by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) under the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR).

In his speech as the chief guest, Dr. Lapang lauded the untiring efforts of the school managing committee and the dedicated service rendered by the faculty members. He further said that the school has played a pivotal role in providing quality education to the students of the area and the State as a whole. He said that late D. N. S. Wahlang was a very committed educationist with a great vision to uplift education in the State.

Earlier, Dr. Lapang unveiled the plaque for the construction of the new school building, while Ms. Lyngdoh launched the website of the school.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Education Minister, Ms. A. Lyngdoh, local MLA of the area, Dr. F. Lyngdoh, and Headmaster of the School, Mr. D. S. Khongwar.

The highlights of the day included songs presented by the students of the school.
