CULTURAL PANORAMA HELD

Shillong, April 27, 2015: The Department of Arts and Culture, Government of Meghalaya organized a one day Cultural Panorama on the 25th April, 2015 at Marngar Lake, Raid Marngar, Ri Bhoi District where Dr. D.D. Lapang, Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya graced the occasion as Chief Guest in presence of Smti Pooja Pandey, Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Smti M.War Nongbri, Director, Arts and Culture and other dignitaries.

The Cultural Panorama showcased the different cultural dances of Ri Bhoi District namely, Ka Shad Tong Dohkha, Dhad Dohmahee, Shad Por Iap Briew, Ka Shad Rah Kynthei, Shad Shud Wait, Shad LuKhmi, Shad Suk Mynsiem, Shad Pliang, Shad Dungkhuner, Shad Lengkhon Misawa, Shad Sokgra Misawa, Shad Kynrup Khla and many others that were performed by various Raid and Elaka of Ri Bhoi District which included Raid Marngar, Raid Bhoilasa, Raid Kharpati, Raid Lymphuid, Raid Iapngar and others.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Lapang lauded the Arts and Culture Department for taking up the initiatives of organizing the cultural programme at Marngar which is located in the outskirts from Nongpoh. He said that such programme will enrich in imparting, motivating and promoting the distinctive and unique cultural dances of the District. Further, Dr. Lapang reminded the people that Ri Bhoi District is the gateway of the State through which tourists from within and outside of the country enters into the State. Therefore he strongly urged the Department concerned to set up different tourism mechanisms in the District for promulgation and promotion of tourists in a wider prospective.

Dr. Lapang also said that students are the assets for the brighter future to protect, preserve and inculcate the distinct and uniqueness of the cultures, traditions, practices and usages and that each and every students should not ignore their rich cultural heritage and urged them that even in the educational standard and achievements that may acquire in their future, they should not under-estimate and forget the contributions their parents and teachers have made in their lives.

Dr Lapang appreciated the presentations of various cultural dances and songs made by the participants and urged them to acknowledge the practices and knowledge they have acquired and also to impart the same to others for the betterment of the next generation.
