APPLICATIONS INVITED FOR UNDERGOING STUDIES IN NIS CENTRES

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for undergoing studies in Sports Coaching leading to a Diploma in sports coaching during the year 2008-09 at NIS Centres at Kolkata, Patiala and Bangalore. Preference will be given to disciplines of Athletics, Football, Badminton, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Archery.

For information and details, intending candidates may contact the office of the Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, Meghalaya, Shillong or District Sports Officers. The last date for submission of applications is May 8, 2008.

DR. DONKUPAR ROY SUBMITS MEMORANDUM TO THE PRIME MINISTER

The Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Donkupar Roy along with the Chairman, State Planning Board, Mr. P A Sangma, met Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh at New Delhi today, April 28, 2008. The Chief Minister was also accompanied by the Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Timothy D Shira, Finance Minister, Mr. Conrad K Sangma and Chief Secretary, Mr. Ranjan Chatterjee.

During the meeting, memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister and at the same time an invitation was also extended to him to visit the State. Among other things, the Chief Minister also informed the Prime Minister about the Meghalaya-Bangladesh Road Network along the border and alternative access road to the Guwahati-Shillong National Highway.

Dr. Roy further sought assistance for building Meghalaya into a horticulture hub, additional central assistance for upgrading Umroi and Baljek Airports and assistance for a rail network along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

The Prime Minister, while reciprocating heartily to the invitation to come to Meghalaya, expressed his belief that the development of North Eastern India needs to be accelerated. The Prime Minister assured the Chief Minister and the accompanying delegation that the Government of India would extend all support for the all round development of Meghalaya, particularly in respect of the specific proposals put forward by the State.

BYE ELECTION TO THE TURA PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCY

The Election Commission of India has notified the date for the Bye-Election to the 2-Tura Parliamentary Constituency in the State of Meghalaya.

The last date for making nominations is May 5, 2008, scrutiny of nominations is May 6, 2008, last date for withdrawal of candidatures is May 8, 2008, poll date is May 22, 2008 and the date before which the election shall be completed is May 27, 2008.
