GUWAHATI CLUB LIFTS CHIEF MINISTERS INVITATIONAL FOOTBALL CUP TROPHY

Shillong, July 28, 2012: The final match of the Chief Minister’s Invitational Football Tournament was played here today at a jam packed Ampati Mini Stadium between Delta XI of Guwahati and Druma Sangdruma of Tura. The fomer thrashed the latter 4 goals to one and lifted the winner’s trophy carrying a cash award of Rs 5 lakhs while the runners up took home cash award of Rs 2 lakhs fifty thousand. The tournament was played between twelve and its first match was kicked off on 19th July 2012

The best player of the tourney carrying a cash award of Rs 10,000 was awarded to Etingson Marak of Boca Juniors from Tura.

Present at the final match as the Chief Guest, Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma kicked off the final match of the tournament and said that the objective of having such a tournament is to promote the sporting activities of the youth of the region. He observed that upcoming budding sportspersons of the state need to be motivated and encouraged thus the government has come up with various schemes to promote sports especially football.

Dr Mukul Sangma also said that the government is extending financial assistance for the construction of stadiums across the state and announced that 16 crores has been sanctioned for the upgradation of the Ampati Mini Stadium and another 16 crores would soon be sanctioned for a cricket ground at Tura. He urged the youth to take up sports as a career and to exploit the sporting talents efficiently.

Ismail Marak, Parliamentary Secretary, Adolf Lu Hitler R Marak, MLA, Alphonse A Sangma, Chairman, GHADC, Zenith M Sangma, Co Chairman, Planning Board, Clement Marak, Co Chairman, Planning Board and Billykid A Sangma, Former MLA also attended the final match.
