DRY DAY DECLARED IN WEST KHASI HILLS

Shillong, September 28, 2012: The Deputy Commissioner (Excise), West Khasi Hills District has declared Dry Day in the entire District on October 2, 2012 on account of Gandhi Jayanti.

All liquor shops, IMFL shops/bars/hotels/CS bars and outstill shall remain closed on the said date.

PERSONAL INTERVIEW

Shillong, September 28, 2012: The Secretary, District Selection Committee, East Khasi Hills has informed the candidates that the personal interview for the post of Electrician-cum-Cinema Operator and Skilled Assistant Embroidery will be held on October 8, 2012.

Candidates who have qualified the written test examination but have not received the call letter should contact the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, Room No. 201.

OBSERVATION OF NATIONAL VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION DAY

Shillong, September 28, 2012: The office of the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society in collaboration with State Blood Transfusion Council and Licensed Blood Banks of the State will be launching the month long observation of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day by conducting road shows in different colleges located in Shillong. The Road Show aims at motivating and encouraging youth to become voluntary blood donors, highlighting the importance of Blood Safety. The theme for this year’s observation is “Somewhere someone needs you, your Blood Donation is precious.”

The flagging-off of the road shows and the launching of the month long campaign will be on October 1, 2012 at 10:00 AM from Shillong Civil Hospital, Shillong.

The road shows will be conducted on October 4, 8 and 10, 2012 in 3 colleges on each day, District Level Observation at Tura, on-air campaign through 93.5 RED FM, weekly telecasting of Video Spots and release of Newspaper Display Ads carrying messages on Voluntary Blood Donation. On October 12, 2012, a State level observation of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day 2012 will be organized.

WALK FOR HEALTH ORGANIZED

Shillong, September 28, 2012: As part of the International Day for Older Persons,the Social Welfare Department today organized a ‘Walk for Health’ from Chandmary playground to DC’s park. The celebration is being organized in collaboration with the Health Department and Information and Public Relations, Tura.

The International Day for Older Persons is observed throughout the world on October 1st every year to recognize the contributions of older persons and to examine issues that affect their lives. It is a special day for senior citizens worldwide. It is a day of global observance and activities promoting older persons and inter-generational cooperation on voluntary activities focused on environment, health, education, community services, inclusion of older persons in the workforce surround this day. It is also a day for commemorating the older persons for their contributions in making a better society.

The walk for health themed ‘Healthy Ageing in the Changing World’ was flagged off from Chandmary playground by Llewellyn R Marak, a senior citizen and concluded at DC’s park where the gathering were given health tips by doctors.

Llewellyn R Marak addressing the gathering as a Special Guest recalled the events that took place in Tura during the last five decades. On a nostalgic note he shared events that he remembered from his childhood days. He later thanked the organizers for holding the event.

DRAFT PHOTO ELECTORAL ROLL PUBLISHED

Shillong, September 28, 2012: The District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District has informed that the draft photo electoral roll for the assembly constituencies of 13-Mawryngkneng (ST), 14-Pynthorumkhrah (GEN), 15-Mawlai (ST), 16-East Shillong (ST), 17-North Shillong (ST), 18-West Shillong (GEN), 19-South Shillong (GEN), 20-Mylliem (St), 21-Nongthymmai (ST), 22-Nongkrem (ST), 23-Sohiong (ST), 24-Mawphlang (ST) 25-Mawsynram (ST), 27-Pynursla (ST) and 29-Mawkynrew (ST) has been prepared with reference to 1st January, 2013 as qualifying date and a copy is available for inspection at the office of the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills, Shillong and in all the offices of the Block Development Officers during office hours and at the concerned Polling Stations from October 1-31, 2012.

If with reference to the above said qualifying date, there be any claim for the inclusion of a name in the roll or any objection at the inclusion of name or any objection to particulars in any entry, it should be lodged on or before October 31, 2012 in Form 6, 6A, 7, 8 or 8A as many be appropriate at the office of the District Election Officer and in all the offices of the Block Development Offices during office hours and at the concerned Polling Stations with the concerned Booth Level Officers.

GOVERNMENT URGES MMSA TO REFRAIN FROM RESORTING TO AGITATIONS

Shillong, September 28, 2012: The Department of Health & Family Welfare Department, Meghalaya, in a communication to the General Secretary, MMSA, had requested the latter to refrain from resorting to any agitation on the matter pertaining to police assault to Dr. W A Sangma, Medical and Health Officer i/c Chokpot PHC. This request has been made as the Deputy Commissioner, South Garo Hills District has initiated the Magisterial Enquiry on the 26th September, 2012, the report of which would be submitted within 15 days. The department is confident that adequate steps would be taken based on the report of the Magisterial Enquiry to ensure that congenial atmosphere prevails in South Garo Hills District and normalcy is resumed in functioning of all health institutions.
