STATUS REPORT ON THE FLASH FLOODS AND LANDSLIDES IN MEGHALAYA

The dead toll in the recent flash floods and landslides has risen to 52 with the recovery of one more dead body from village Balalggri, South West Garo Hills. In addition three persons from Menadoba village, North Garo Hills Districts are reported to be buried under landslides and bodies are yet to be recovered.

Weather is cloudy although it is raining in some areas of East Garo Hills.

NH 37 is reported to be open for light and heavy vehicles late today . NH 62 is open for light vehicles only. NH 51, AMPT Road, Tura –Baghmara Road, Shillong-Nongstoin- Williamnagar- Tura Road, Damra- Dainadubi- Mendipathar Road, Paikan-Resubelpara Road are open to all types of vehicles. Resubelpara-Mendipathar Road, Baghmara-Maheshkhola Road, and Williamnagar- Mendipathar Road are still closed.

Power Supply has been restored in most places barring Baghmara. Resubelpara is likely to have power supply shortly. Water Supply to Baghmara, Resubelpara, Nongpoh and Byrnihat remains disrupted and alternative arrangements are being made through water tankers and other temporary measures to supply water. Stock of medicines and medical personnel are adequate and there has been no report of any outbreak of epidemics.
