2ND PHASE TELE-EDUCATION SERVICE

Shillong, March 29, 2010: The Government India under the Tele-Education Project funded by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology through the Education Department, Government of Meghalaya and National Informatics Centre is offering the Second Phase Crash Course Classes free of cost for Class XII Science students (Batch 2009-2010) who will be appearing for Engineering and Medical Entrance Test, 2010. The classes have commenced from the 25th March and will last till 16th April 2010.

The courses are available in Tura Government College, Don Bosco College, Tura, Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Jowai, Pine Mount School, Shillong, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Shillong, Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Shillong, Lady Keane College, Shillong.

Students are requested to avail the facilities.

NORTH EASTERN REGION CAPITAL CITIES DEVELOPMENT INVESTMENT PROGRAMME

Shillong, March 29, 2010: A Loan and project agreement has been executed between Government of Meghalaya, Asian Development Bank and Ministry of Urban Development, Government of Meghalaya under the North Eastern Regional Capital Cities Development Programme funded jointly by Asian Development Bank and Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India on the 4th August, 2009. The loan has become effective from 19th November 2009. As per the agreement, an amount of $4.622 million has been allocated for the first phase of the project in Meghalaya.

As part of the Programme, the State Investment Programme Management and Implementation Unit (SIPMIU), Shillong constituted under the Urban Affairs Department has signed two contract agreements for consultancy services. One agreement signed on the 17th November 2009 was with M/S Mott. Mac Donald, Ahmedabad who is also responsible for the design, supervision and management of the urban infrastructure projects in Shillong. Survey and investigation works has already started by the consultant. The consultancy service will focus on sewerage and solid waste management in Shillong. Proposal for development of sewerage system and a sewerage Treatment Plant to check pollution at Umkhrah and Umshyrpi streams as well as Umiam reservoir has also been made.

The other contract agreement has been signed with M/S Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Gurgoan on the 25th March 2010 and will be responsible for putting forth recommendations for institution development and implementation of Urban reforms in Shillong. The scope of work of this consultancy will involve decentralized urban governance and urban local body enhancement, sustainable, accountable water and sewerage service delivery, private sector participation, public awareness and many more. The consultancy service is likely to commence from the month of April 2010. Further as an immediate measure, the SIPMIU has also finalized a bid for development of an emergency sanitary land fill site at Marten.

The overall duration of the project has commence on 2009 to likely to carry on till 2015 and will be implemented in three phases in which the first phase has already started.
