IAS OFFICERS CONDOLED DEATH OF THE FIRST CS

A special meeting of IAS Officers of the Meghalaya Wing of the Assam-Meghalaya Cadre was held on May 28, 2008 to condole the sad demise of the first Chief Secretary of the Autonomous State of Meghalaya, Mr. K L Pasricha, IAS (Retd). In a meeting presided over by Mr. K K Sinha, IAS (Retd), Chairman, Fourth Meghalaya Pay Commission, a two minutes silence was also observed to pay respect to the departed soul.

Mr. K L Pasricha was a distinguished administrator. He set before himself high professional standards and followed them scrupulously. He was known for his devotion to duty and sincerity of purpose and commanded respect from all. A genuine and modest person, he was full of concern for his colleagues and subordinates.

The meeting also conveys its sincere and heartfelt condolence to members of the bereaved family and prays to God to give them strength and solace in their irreparable loss.

SEMINAR ON DRUG ABUSE, HIV AIDS

To create awareness on the hazards of drugs and HIV/AIDS, the office of the Joint Directorate of Social Welfare, Tura, organized a seminar on Drug Abuse/HIV/AIDS on May 29, 2008 at the Circuit House, Tura, West Garo Hills. The seminar was graced by the Meghalaya Minister of Social Welfare, Mr. Nimarson Ch. Momin, as the Chief Guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Momin said that Social Welfare plays an important role in bringing about changes in the life of women and children and also provides funds to NGOs and impart vocational training and set up rehabilitation centres for drug and AIDS victims. Later he congratulated the department for rendering yeoman services to women and children and giving awareness to the people.

Other members who spoke on the occasion included Mr. Michael of NEIDAC, Shillong and Mrs. B Nengnong, Social Welfare Officer.

Earlier, the welcome address and introductory speech was given by Mrs. L N Jyrwa, Joint Director, Social Welfare, Tura while the function was chaired by Mrs. V A Sangma, DSWO, Tura and vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. L M Momin, DSWO, Williamnagar.
