APPLICATION INVITED FOR GRANT OF SCHOLARSHIPS

Shillong, March 30, 2011: Applications in prescribed format are invited from students belonging to the minority communities pursuing Technical and Professional Courses at Under Graduate/Post Graduate level in recognized institutions for grant of Merit-cum-Means based Scholarship for the year 2011-12. Applications for the Scholarship are to be submitted on-line to www.momascholarship.gov.in. Print out of duly filled in applications forms can also be submitted to the office of the Director of Higher & Technical Education, Meghalaya, Shillong alongwith all supporting document through their respective institution.

Further, applications are also invited for grant of Post-Matric Scholarship for students pursuing any course from Class XI to Post Graduate level and Pre-Matric Scholarship for Class I to Class X students studying in recognized institutions.

Detailed information like eligibility and forms (both Fresh and Renewal) can be collected from the Scholarship Branch Room No. 206-B (Additional Secretariat Building), Office of the Director of Higher & Technical Education, Meghalaya, Shillong or can be downloaded from Education Website http://megeducation.gov.in/dhte/scholarship/schforms.html. Last date of submission of application with all relevant documents is on or before 30th July, 2011.

UNION MINISTER TO INAUGURATE WORKSHOP

Shillong, March 30, 2011: The Chief Engineer (WR), Meghalaya, Shillong has informed that the Union Minister of Water Resources, Mr. Salman Kurshid and Union Minister of State for Water Resources, Mr. Vincent H Pala will visit Meghalaya on April 4, 2011 to inaugurate the workshop on “Water Resources Management in North East Region with special reference to Floods” and to launch the Water Resources Departmental website at Pinewood Hotel, Shillong at 11:00 AM.

GARO LOK UTSAV INAUGURATED

Shillong, March 30, 2011: Garo Lok Utsav, a two-day festival and seminar of Music-Dance traditions of the Garos, organized by Sangeet Natak Academy North East Centre, Shillong in collaboration with the District Administration, West Garo Hills, Tura was inaugurated today, March 30, 2011, by the Deputy Commissioner of the District, Mr. Sanjay Goyal at the District Auditorium. The festival is presented under the series of special programmes of the academy to promote and preserve folk and traditional performing arts.

The Sangeet Natak Academy is an autonomous body of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and funded by the government for implementation of its schemes and programmes and looks after institutions and projects of national importance in the field of performing arts. The North East Centre was established to promote music, dance and drama of the North East.

Various artists performed Garo folk dances and songs at the opening day of the festival.

Dr. O P Bharti, Deputy Secretary of the Academy North East Centre, Shillong, Mrs. Dipika Das, eminent poet and cultural activist and therathre director, Prashant Sharma were also present at the inaugural function.
