SPECIAL SCREENING OF DOCUMENTARY HELD AT RAJ BHAVAN

The Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Banwarilal Purohit today felicitated the director of the documentary film ‘My name is Eeooow’ Shri Oinam Doren and his team at Raj Bhavan, Shillong. After the felicitation, the Khasi documentary film with English sub-title was screened before the audience which includes Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Shri K. N. Kumar, Fr. John D. Jayakumar, Shri B. S. Rumnong and more than 200 villagers from Kongthong and adjoining villages. A documentary film made in Kongthong village in East Khasi Hills District was directed by Shri Oinam Doren and produced by Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, New Delhi. The documentary film was co-written and edited by Shri Wanphrang Diengdoh and Smti Baia Marbaniang assisted the director. The documentary film revolved around the unique naming practices of the inhabitants of Khongthong village called the Jyngrwai Iawbei. The jyngrwai iawbei is the practice of having musical tunes as names. The song names come as an expression of the mother’s love for her new born.
