CALAMITY RELIEF FUND RELEASED

Shillong, June 30, 2010: The office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh has released the Calamity Relief Fund on Cyclone under Umling, Umsning and Jirang Block which occurred during April, 2010. Concerned beneficiaries are requested to approach their respective Block Development Officers for grant of the same.

MEETING HELD AT EAST GARO HILLS

Shillong, June 30, 2010: With an aim to achieve greater participation in the electoral process across the District, the Deputy Commissioner, East Garo Hills District called a meeting in his Chamber with all the District Officers, Colleges and School Principals and local NGOs today, June 30, 2010. During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner expressed his views and shared his ideas with the District Officers and urged upon them to work hard in order to make the public understand the importance of Election and reasons for under registration and low voter turnout. He stressed about the electoral roll preparation, registration of photo electoral roll and maximization of EPIC and EVM awareness.

DC DIRECTS ARM LICENCES HOLDERS

Shillong, June 30, 2010: In order to prevent any incidents which might create panic to the general public in Mookyndeng village, Jaintia Hills due to the dispute between the family of Shri Philing Pala and the residents of Mookyndeng village, the Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District has prohibited carrying of arms by any person or persons, carrying/storing of explosive materials by any person or persons.

The Deputy Commissioner also ordered that all Arms Licences Holders of Mookyndeng village are to deposit their weapons along with Xerox Copies of Licenses to their respective Police Stations and Out Posts for safe custody and the same will be released when the situation is normal.

This order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders.

PROHIBITION OF ILLEGAL COLLECTION OF TOLL FEES

Shillong, June 30, 2010: The Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District has prohibited any illegal collection of Toll Fees by Government/Authorised Checkgates/Weighbridges in the District along the NH-44 and 40(E) and also prohibited setting up of any illegal or unauthorized checkgates/weighbridges along the said National Highways in the District with immediate effect.

LOCAL HOLIDAY IN JAINTIA HILLS

Shillong, June 30, 2010: The Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District has informed that all State Government Offices, Education institutions under the Government of Meghalaya located in Jaintia Hills District shall remain closed on July 12, 2010 on account of Behdeinkhlam Festival.

JUTE FAIR INAUGURATED

Shillong, June 30, 2010: Director of Commerce and Industries, Government of Meghalaya, Mr. D. K. Areng inaugurated the 5 day ‘Jute Fair’ today the 30th June 2010 at State Central Library. The event is being organised by the National Jute Board (NJB)of India under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India with an aim to promote Indian Jute. The Fair comprises of display cum sale of lifestyle jute products by 26 entrepreneurs from different parts of the country showcasing their environment-friendly jute consumer products like handicrafts, dolls, fancy jute bags and many more.

Other dignitaries present at the inaugural function are Mr. A.K.Ghosh, Consultant, NJB, Mr. T. K. Saha, Market Promotion Officer, NJB and many others.

Speaking in the occasion, MR. D. K Areng highlighted the evolution of jute market and the value of jute products. He also stated the importance of jute fabric in which they are being used in various fields even road constructions, as manure to grow crops and many more. He further said that if these resources can be tapped it can benefit the growers, generate employment and avenues for setting up of small scale industries.

The Jute Fair will continue from the 30th June to the 5th of July 2010 from 11 AM to 7 PM.
