URBAN AFFAIRS MINISTER RELEASED SSTS BUSES

Shillong, August 30, 2012: Meghalaya Urban Affairs Minister, Smti. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh released another 20 buses under the Shillong Special Transport Services (SSTS) to add to the existing public transport services in Shillong at a function held on 30th August, 2012 at Don Bosco Square, Laitumkhrah, Shillong. The 24 seater TATA Marcopolo buses are procured under the 13th Finance Commission Award at the cost of Rs. 11,38,892/- each.

These buses are being operated from today by the Shillong Municipal Board with the assistance of Synroplang Self Help Group on PPP mode and on 50:50 revenue sharing model. The primary objective of the SSTS operation is to cater to the needs of the citizens during school hours while for the rest of the day the buses will operate as public transport. Passengers are requested to insist on tickets while travelling by these buses and ticketless travelers are liable to be fined.

The SSTS buses are also available on hire for dropping office goers on working days and also for social and religious purposes.
