STATE LEVEL WORKSHOP FOR SHGS

A one-day State Level Workshop on coordination, Action and policy framework for Self Help Groups in Meghalaya will be held at NIC, Auditorium on December 02, 2006 at 10 a.m. The programme is being organized by the office of the State Coordinator for SHG, Government of Meghalaya in association with Meghalaya Rural Development Society (MRDS). The workshop is aimed at facilitating dialogue for creation of a suitable framework for Coordination, Action and policies for self-help groups in the state. There will be launching of the website, presentation on survey by Dr. Anita. P. Jyrwa, (questionnaire for the same is available on the website), presentations by Smt. Angela Rangad MRDS, NABARD and Shri. Daniel Ingty, NERCRMP West Garo Hills District and other resource persons. The Working Group Discussions would work on finalization of the Statewide Survey and Assessment of Self Help Groups in Meghalaya, finalizing the framework for SHGs functioning federation of SHGs in Meghalaya. All self help groups promoting NGOs, bankers, departments and organisations involved in SHG promotion are invited to attend the workshop. Registration will commence at 9.00 a.m.

RECRUITMENT IN THE ITBP

The Senior Administrative Officer (Pers-II), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Government of India has informed that modification has been made for recruitment of Group- ‘C’ Sub-Inspector (Gen Duty) and Constable (Gen Duty) against the Sports quota in the ITBP for Judo, Archery and Rifle Shooting.

For Constable (Gen Duty) in the field of Judo the weight of the candidates should be 60 Kg, 66 Kg and 81 Kg instead of 88 Kg.

EPIC NOTICE

The Additional Deputy Commissioner, In-charge Election, East Khasi Hills District, has informed that the office of the Deputy Commissioner will issue individual notices to those people who did not get themselves photographed during the previous EPIC campaigns, to report before the ERO at a particular place and time for taking the EPIC. In the event that such electors still fail to turn up, their names will be deleted from the Electoral Rolls as per the instruction of the Election Commissioner and Section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

FOOTPATH INAUGURATED

Mr. P. W. Muktieh, Deputy Speaker, Meghalaya, recently inaugurated a footpath at Thad village, constructed by the C& RD Block, Umsning under SRWP Scheme.

Speaking on the day, Mr. Muktieh lauded the village Dorbar for proper utilization of the Scheme which has brought about much benefit for the people of the area. Giving his assurance to get the 1 km Sohpdok Thad Road black topped, Mr. Muktieh hoped that this effort would greatly ease the transportation problems faced by the people, particularly when moving their agricultural products.

Others, who spoke on the occasion, were Mr. F. M. Kharsyntiew, B.D.O, Umsning and Mr. W. Lyngdoh, E. E. (P.W.D.) Umsning. The meeting was presided over by the Headmen.

FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT CONCLUDES

The Congress Trophy Football Tournament 2006 organised by the Marngar Sports Association (MSA), Ri Bhoi District and sponsored by Dr. D. D. Lapang, local MLA and Chairman of the MED concluded on November 29, 2006 at the Marngar playground, Ri Bhoi District. 25 teams took part in the tournament and in the finals Born Again XI defeated Lalumpam Sports Club by two goals.

Speaking at the Chief Guest at the prize distribution ceremony, Dr. Lapang while congratulating the participating teams, also encouraged the players to take up sporting activities in right earnest. Adding that people can now earn a means of living from sports he urged upon the youth be determined in their quest to achieve their goals. Dr. Lapang further encouraged people to harness the potential and resources available in the District for their economic empowerment and also for the overall development of the State.

Among others who spoke on the occasion were Mr. C. B. Syiem, MDC and Mr. S. Majhong, Headman.

The day ended with prize distribution to the finalists, third place winners and individual played who excelled in the tournament.
