ORDERS FOR CONTAINMENT AREAS

Due to the detection of positive COVlD-19 cases/high risk contacts due to recent high risk and low risk contact with COVID-19 positive cases and because vulnerable and affected areas require aggressive contact tracing, quarantine, testing and isolation as well as containment in the interest of the health of the general public against any possible spread of COVID-19, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, in an order issued on 4th August, 2020 has declared the house of Mandalyn Lyngdoh Mawnai and Albinia Lyngdoh Mawnai at Malki Chinapatty, the house of Martian Mawthoh at Riat Bharat, Malki Nongshiliang and the house of Pynhunlang Lyngdoh of Lower Lummawrie as containment areas so as to restrict unregulated entry and exit movement on site. The order states that no person and public are allowed to move into these containment areas and inhabitants within the containment areas also not allowed to move out, besides, all inhabitants within the containment areas must strictly remain inside their homes. Gatherings, events, functions whatsoever of any nature and forms including social, political, religious, economic activities are not allowed. All shopping establishments shall be closed immediately and supply of essential and medical requirements for purchase will be ensured through various teams formed by the District Administration. All Government and private institutions located within the boundary of the containment area to close forthwith, till further orders. According to the order, the concerned Incident Commander will be the Supervising Officer of these Containment areas. The order, however, will not apply to health workers and essential workers of Shillong Municipal Board, press including electronic and print media, petrol pumps and LPG delivery workforce. Any violation of the order will entail prosecution under the penal provision of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and IPC.

CONTAINMENT ORDERS LIFTED

Based on contact tracing status and test reports of high risk contacts in Lumpyngngad Block-II and Block- III, in the building and compound of Julie Kharmawphlang of Block D, Nongrimmaw and in view of the reports received thereof, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District in an order issued on 4th August, 2020 has lifted the containment orders for the building and compound of Mayorika Lyngdoh, houses of Kitbok Wanrieh, Sweety Lapang and Ricky Kharshandi of Lumpyngngad Block-II, the house of Wanpynshai Nongrum of Lumpyngngad, Block-III and the building and compound of Julie Kharmawphlang of Block D, Nongrimmaw with immediate effect.

CHIEF MINISTER INSPECTS CONSTRUCTION OF SICPAC, MAWDIANGDIANG

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K. Sangma today inspected the ongoing construction of the Shillong International Centre for Performing Arts and Culture (SICPAC) at Mawdiangdiang, which is in final stage of completion. He inspected the site with Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Arts and Culture, Shri F. R Kharkongor, wherein Chief Minister was briefed about the progress of the works. The construction of SICPAC is almost complete with finishing and furnishing being currently underway. The officials informed that the construction and handing over of the projects will be completed within this financial year. Officials of the department informed that physical progress of about 83 percent is complete.

The prestigious project is constructed at an estimated cost of over 108 crores and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India has agreed to sanction additional 12.85 crores for light and sound show in two auditoriums viz., black box and little theatre. The cost of installation of sound and light system in the remaining auditorium – multipurpose hall has been posed to the North Eastern Council (NEC) at a cost of Rupees 10 crores. The State Level Empowered Committee has recommended the proposal which is awaiting approval of NEC.

CHIEF MINISTER REVIEWS IMPLEMENTATION OF PMGSY WORKS

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K. Sangma today reviewed the implementation of the PMGSY works in the State with officials of the PWD and the Deputy Commissioners. The officials of the PWD informed that the implementation of the schemes across the State is under progress, however due to Covid situation, there was delay in the works from March end till May. The Chief Minister has issued instruction to the department that construction be carried out in full swing and completed within stipulated time frame. He expressed his confidence in the implementing agency – the PWD and told them to submit progress reports of the projects on a weekly basis to the government for effective monitoring of the scheme. He also instructed the department and the DCs to monitor the implementation works at the micro level and ensure completion of works within the scheduled dates.

Out of 971 sanctioned schemes covering a total length of 4303.70 KM, 414 schemes covering a total length of 1353.12 KM have been completed while 528 schemes covering a total length of 2849.98 KM are in progress. He also informed that the online monitoring mechanism in the Chief Minister’s Office is ready and the department should feed information, wherein details of the schemes, status of the works, names and contact number of officials and contractors etc should be made available for effective monitoring of the implementation.
