Press Release No. 137/24 EAST JAINTIA HILLS DISTRICT FELICITATES STATE LEVEL MEDAL WINNERS The office of the District Sports Officer, East Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with the District Administration, East Jaintia Hills District today felicitated all the State Level Medal Achievers of East Jaintia Hills District both in Athletics and Football at a programme held at the Conference Hall, office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District. The felicitation ceremony was graced by the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi as Chief Guest in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Smt. J.U. Kharpuri, District Sports Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Smt. S. M Rapsang, East Jaintia Hills District Sports Association members, traditional heads, Athletic Coaches, Athletes and others. Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi in his address commended the office of the District Sports Officer, East Jaintia Hills District for taking up the initiative to felicitate the medal winners and congratulated all the athletes who have brought laurels to the district while also informing them that the felicitation formed part of the government’s effort to support athletes in their pursuit of sports excellence. Furthermore, he also enlightened the gathering on the efforts of the government to provide all possible assistance to the athletes of the state citing the different sports infrastructure made available to sports persons across the state and the Talent Identification Programme organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya and the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) as interventions in this regard. He also stated that the district administration is committed to provide every possible support system to sports persons of East Jaintia Hills District. During the felicitation programme, cash awards were given to all the medal winners in the State Level Inter School Athletics Meet 2023-24, Under-14 Years (Boys) State Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2023, Under-17 Years (Boys) and Under-12 Years (Girls) Chief Minister’s Youth Development Scheme (CMYDS) Football Tournament, 2023 and to the Athletics Coaches from the district. Press Release No. 138/24 WORKSHOP ON WATER QUALITY IN EAST JAINTIA HILLS DISTRICT ORGANIZED Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi today inaugurated a One-Day Workshop on the topic “Water Quality in East Jaintia Hills District of Meghalaya with specific study on change of colour of Lunar-Lubha River” organized by the Department of Water Resources, Government of Meghalaya at Khliehriat West Community Hall, Khliehriat. Others who attended the workshop include Chief Engineer Water Resources, Smti. A.D Blah, Scientist, Central Pollution Control Board, CPCB, Shri Arnab Mondal, Executive Engineer Water Resources, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri K. Lamare, Executive Engineer, Water Resources Hydro Informatics HI, Shillong, Shri R.R Lyngskor, various line department officials, traditional heads, teachers and students of Don Bosco College, Byndihati & Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat. In his inaugural address, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi stated that the workshop is beneficial to both officials and researchers who had conducted studies on the Lunar-Lubha Riveras also stakeholders attending the programme. Additionally, he expressed optimism that the deliberations during the technical sessions and the interaction thereafter would help offer practical solutions to the issues and challenges concerning the pollution in the said river. The daylong workshop featured presentations by officials of the Central Pollution Control Board, CPCB, Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board, MSPSC, Water Resources Department, Saindur Enviro Pvt Ltd and academicians from the Department of Zoology, St. Anthonys College & the Department of Environmental Studies, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong.
