ENROLMENT OF RELIGIOUS TEACHER

The enrolment of Religious Teacher (Pandit) in the Territorial Army 107 INF (TA) 11 Gorkha Rifles will be held from February 19, 2007 to February 22, 2007 at the 107 Infantry Battalion (TA) 11 Gorkha Rifles, Jalapahar, Darjeeling.

RE-ALLOCATION OF PORTFOLIOS

The Government of Meghalaya has affected re-allocation of portfolios amongst the Deputy Chief Minister and Ministers with immediate effects.

Dr. Donkupar Roy, Deputy Chief Minster will be i/c of Finance, Power, Law, Revenue, Higher and Technical Education, Elections, Border Areas Development, Elementary and Mass Education. Mr. Paul Lyngdoh, Minister will be i/c Sports & Youth Affairs, Science and Technology, Home (Passport), Tourism and General Administrative Department. Mr. R G Lyngdoh, Minister will be i/c Home (Police), Information & Technology, Parliamentary Affairs, Information & Public Relations and Health & Family Welfare. Mr. P Tynsong, Minister will be i/c PHE, District Council Affairs, Urban Affairs including Municipal and Non-Conventional Energy. Mrs. I Lyngdoh, Minister will be i/c Excise, Housing, Relief and Rehabilitation, Stamps and Registration, Re-organisation. Mr. Brening A Sangma, Minister will be i/c PWD (Roads), Evaluation, Weights and Measures, Printing and Stationery, Arts & Culture. Mr. E D Marak, Minister will be i/c Mining and Geology, Labour, Sericulture and Weaving, Communication. FOUR DAY PUBLIC INFORMATION CAMPAIGN BEGINS AT WGH

The four day Public Information Campaign on the flagship programmes of the Central Government was kicked off at Tura District Auditorium by the local MDC, Mr. John L K Sangma on February 7, 2007. The campaign is being organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Government of India, Shillong in collaboration with the Central media units and State Government.

The Campaign is aimed at increasing awareness among the people of the flagship programmes of the government like the Bharat Nirman, NREGA, SSA, Mid-day meal programme, UMMP, RTI and NRHM.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sangma said that this Campaign shows the determination and sincerity of the UPA Government to uplift the rural masses and minority communities. Stating that ignorance is one of the main causes that hinder the success of many such programmes, he said that the very purpose of this campaign was to make the people aware about these programmes so that the people would derive maximum benefit from them.

Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Mr. P Sampath Kumar in his brief speech said that such campaigns are necessary because “information empowers the people” He also highlighted the works being taken up by the District Administration under these programmes and said that such campaign could help increase people participation in implementing them.

Earlier, Deputy Director-General, PIB, NE Region, Mr. B Narzaree welcomed the gathering and gave a brief introductory address on the campaign.
