STATE GOVERNMENT ORDER

In an order issued on 22nd March, 2020, the Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya directed that no Government employee in the districts including officers, employees of line Departments and contractual staff shall leave their districts without the permission of their respective Deputy Commissioners. Further, every government employee will keep their mobile phones in ‘switched on’ mode and should be available for any emergency requirement at all times and non compliance of these instructions will be viewed seriously by the Government, stated the Chief Secretary.

ORDER FOR PLYING OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT

To take steps to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the state of Meghalaya and in order to achieve this objective, the Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Transport Department stated that it is imperative to restrict the use of public transport all over the State including inter-state operations. In an order issued on 22nd March, 2020, the Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Transport Department said that there shall be no inter-state plying of buses, Tourist taxis and no inter district plying of any public transport vehicle i.e. Buses, Maxi Cabs, Tourist Taxis with effect from 23rd March, 2020 till 31st March, 2020 and District Transport Officers of all Districts are directed to ensure strict compliance of this order.

ORDER UNDER SECTION 144 CRPC

The Sub Divisional Magistrate, Sohra Civil Sub Division has under Section 144 CrPC relaxed the Curfew in all areas under Shella Police Station with effect from 6:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. of 23rd March, 2020 and will be extended again from 10:00 P.M. of 23rd March, 2020. All areas under Tyllap Police Outpost including Ichamati, curfew has been relaxed with effect from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. of 23rd March, 2020 and will be extended again from 5:00 P.M. of 23rd March, 2020 All areas under Bholaganj Police Check Post, curfew has been relaxed with effect from 6:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. of 23rd March, 2020 and will be extended again from 5:00 P.M. of 23rd March, 2020 until further orders.

GUIDELINES FOR OBSERVING JANATA CURFEW IN THE STATE

In connection with preventive steps for COVID-19, the Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya has issued guidelines for observing Janata Curfew in the State. The guidelines issued on 22nd March, 2020 stated that Janata Curfew shall be implemented from 6 AM of 22nd March, 2020 to 6 AM of 23rd March, 2020, all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police shall appeal to the residents of their respective Districts to exercise self restraint and stay in their homes for the duration of the Janata Curfew, movement of residents will be permitted for accessing emergency medical services, chemists, pharmacies and all essential services are permitted to be opened, public transport will not be operational, inter-state border check post should be strengthened to ensure that no vehicles are allowed to enter the state from outside during the period, transport of medicines, essential commodities and perishable food items will however be permitted, all shops, establishments etc. will be closed, traders and business persons shall be requested to co-operate in this regard and all Deputy Commissioners are directed to send a report every four hours on the implementation of the Janata Curfew to the Chief Secretary. However, the guidelines stated that movement of personnel involved in provision of essential services such as health, sanitation, police, etc will be permitted.

MOVEMENT RESTRICTED

The Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya in an order issued on 22nd March, 2020 has restricted movement of people into the State in view of the current situation around COVID-19 and persons entering the State with the sole purpose of travel/ tourism, will not be allowed to enter as all tourist spots have been closed.
