CHIEF MINISTER INAUGURATES MAWPHANLUR WATER CONCLAVE 2017

Mawphanlur Water Conclave 2017 as part of Springshed Development Initiative Programme was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma on Tuesday the 10th January 2017 at Mawphanlur, Nongstoin. The programme was organized by Meghalaya Basin Development Authority in collaboration with Soil and Water Conservation Department. Addressing the gathering the Chief Minister said that livelihood revolves around water and development initiatives of the government have been to ensure promotion of different platforms for convergence in implementation of programmes for providing sustainable livelihood. He also called for identification of watershed and its protection with active involvement of communities. The Chief Minister also said that places like Mawphanlur and Nongkhnum are potential tourist attractions and added that local people are the ambassadors to urge tourists to visit these beautiful places. Stating that the Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road has become one of the most beautiful roads in the state he said that there is a need to look at the aesthetic and safety part of the roads not only for motorists but for tourists as well. He also said that work is on to upgrade the Markasa-Mawphanlur road and called upon all to partner with the government to achieve various developmental programmes and agenda of the state. Earlier, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone at Markasa for metalling and blacktopping of the 5.22 km road from Markasa to Mawphanlur. He also laid the foundation stone for 1 km village road using plastic cell technology under Megha Livelihood and Access to Markets Projects at Umthlong Kharmuti village of West Khasi Hills. Minister, School Education & Literacy, Home Guards etc Deborah C Marak, Parliamentary Secretary, PWD (R), Cherak Momin, Local MLA, B Nongsiej, MLA Mairang, Metbah Lyngdoh, MLA Nongstoin, D Jyndiang, R M Mishra, Principal Secretary, Water Resources, Soil & Water Conservation etc & CEO, MBDA, Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills, S Kharlyngdoh, Superintendent of Police, West Khasi Hills, S Nongtnger and officers from various line departments were present on the occasion.

DRAFT ELECTORAL ROLL PUBLISHED

The Electoral Registration Officer, West Khasi Hills District, has informed that the lists of amendment to the draft Electoral Roll for 32-Nongstoin (ST) Assembly Constituency, 33-Rambrai Jyrngam (ST) Assembly Constituency and 34-Mawshynrut (ST) Assembly Constituency has been prepared with reference to 01-01-2017 as the qualifying date and in accordance with the Registration of Electoral Rule, 1960. A copy of the said Roll together with the said list of amendments has been published and available for inspection at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin.
